I've always wondered if "picnic basket" was some sort of filthy metaphor, as in "Hey baby, mind if I root around in your picnic basket for a while?"

That son of a gun is smarter than your average bear. I've heard he can sleep til noon but before it's dark he'll have every picnic basket that's in Jellystone Park.
