Well, I was at Sticky fingers in London the last year. When I ordered a bear, the barman told me they had Budweiser and some other, I don't remember the name. I asked whether it was the Czech or the American Budweiser. He sadly said it was the American one and so I ordered the ther one, whatever it was.

I do know that many people love to talk in a bad way about Bud, but that is usually telling more about tolerance (or lack of such) than the beer. I like beer like others like wine, do tasting, beer tours and have hundreds of beer favorites across the world. Bud is a great beer, simple as that. If you get it fresh in USA. On tap, not bottle. But it's not the only one of course. If you don't like it, then drink something else, but don't tell us you don't like it. PS. I don't tell people NOT to drink Guinnes Stout, even if it is not ideal in all situations. By the way, most people in English pubs these days drink lager i.e. pilsner type beers and not ales or bitters. No problem for me. It's a free world, and if Budweiser were allowed to sell their beer in German spoken countries, it would be the bigest brand in Europe - I am pretty sure.

BV is right about the fresh out of the tap taste of Budweiser. Many years ago I toured one of their breweries, and a couple of free samples were given. It was delicious.

Problem is, in bars it's served way too cold, and it loses all its taste.

Agreed. I stopped drinking lager a couple of years ago. It still gets drank occasionaly of course, but I'll opt for a real ale over it. Guinness is usually my alternative.

Keg beer isn't good. It should be REAL and cask conditioned or nothing else! winking smiley

I meant that the bartender was sad to tell me it was not the Czech Budvar. He really was, I am sure he knew the Czech one well.

There's a huge difference between them, no doubt about it.

Many years ago we used to meet up with some GI's and they would bring crates of US-Bud from the PX.
It was lots o fun to smoke "Kool" cigs and drink the Bud from cans in dozens, listening to music from AFN or casettes, but it did taste really watery...
and that's when the gallon bottle of Jim Beam entered the game...

long gone times though.

VERY true my friend.

I live in St. Louis, the world HQ of Anheuser Busch, and you should hear all the flip-floppin by the local politicians on this buyout.

First they were totally against it and aligned themselves with a small group of locals who organized and had a few rallys before baseball games and marched to Busch Stadium. Their whole schtick was that it was "anti-American" and "foreigners" should not be allowed to buy an American company. That was funny as that is exactly what AB was trying to do with Grupo Modelo in MEX. Do you think any of those protesters here thought that was OK??? Of course they did.

Now that it is a done deal the local politicians have totally reversed their views and or all for it. Some have mumbled that they will "make inBev keep their word" about keeping the HQ here etc but they have done a totally 180.

I haven't heeard this much flip flopping since a Jimmy Buffett concert.

First my dealer started getting his weed from Mexico, and now my beer is going to come from Belgium. I'm really starting to feel like an important part of the global economy, especially considering all the money I've indirectly given to Columbians over the years.

Nice review:

Budweiser is probably one of the best examples of the pilsner style of beer. It's a top quality, beautifully crafted example of how good a beer can be. First brewed in the Czech Republic way back in.....wait a minute - that's the good Budweiser (Budvar, Czechvar...whatever).

I'll start again.

Budweiser, or to give it its friendlier name, Bud, is NOT one of the best examples of the pilsner style of beer. It is however a good example of the power of global marketing and clever advertising.

Glancing through my well thumbed copy of Michael Jackson's 500 Classic Brews for some relevant information on this beer, I find - nothing. So it doesn't make it into the top 500, what a surprise

They have Rolling Stones wine... I have never tried it.
Why don't they brew "Rolling Stones Beer" ?
I can't imagine how it would taste.

There's a joke here somewhere.

Budweiser Budvar is one of more tolerable lagers, I'll admitt.

He probably just got a little koala bear. Those little boogers aren't very vicious.
