Stones Press Confrences

How many has there been? Which one was the coolest? Bridges? Which one was the best? TOTA? Wasn't Voodoo done from a boat? So they've done cars, a tractor trailer, a boat, a blimp and...wasn't Steel Wheels basically started from a train but they weren't really on one right? So I guess they need to finally do one on a train.

Or something else? Space shuttle launch?

Any ideas?

Perhaps the coolest was the flatbed truck.
I think Charlie might have come up with that one. Old jazzers used to do that kind of thing.

>> wasn't Steel Wheels basically started from a train but they weren't really on one right? <<

if memory serves the Stones did indeed arrive at that one by train.
i would dig it if they'd turn up on horseback ... but i agree that the coolest ones
have been performances: the flatbed truck and Julliard.

Here's the 1975 flatbed truck press conference. A really funny old curmudgeon is interviewed starting at 2:17. grinning smiley

They should hold a press conference regarding Ronnie's current situation.

How many has there been? Dozens going back through their history, I would imagine.

Whats this about a tractor trailer?

Recent announcements (Not counting Euro/Japanese tours etc which were part of a world tour...since '89 these are p/conferences announcing a world tour)
TOTA '75 - performing Brown Sugar on a flatbed truck on 5th Avenue, NYC
US 1981 - Jagger did it at JFK Stadium, Philadelphia
Steel Wheels - train to Grand Central, NYC
Voodoo Lounge - arriving on a boat (The Honey Fitz), NY
BTB - driving in a chevy to the Brooklyn Bridge
Licks - arrived by blimp at Van Cortland Park, Bronx, NY
Bang - live performance at Juilliard Music School, NY

None of the press conferences actually took place on a mode of transport, though.

Next one? The only way they can do something more spectacular would be to do it from a space shuttle

It certainly was for Charlie. The poor bastard was going green at various points.

Vaguely remember seeing that one (have it on video somewhere). Didnt he directly question Mick's sexuality or something at one point?

Dont have that one, but I have this 40 minute documentary about the Aussie tour. I do seem to remember them taking umbrage at some of the questions being asked, and I'm pretty sure at one point one of the interviewers makes some remark about them being 'queer' or something.

Mick did some press conference alone around Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tours? One of the questions was "Is this FINALLY your last tour?" Mick´s answer: "No."
I have it on some interview disc, its seems it´s only Mick talking.

Mick did the press conference in London in march 1990 to announce the European tour.

Sorry. Flat bed being the tractor trailer - I was implying the trailer bit. I never did notice what was pulling it. Same thing, I think - a trailer that hauls things.

There's always the 1969 one. Was that the first one?

I mentioned a space shuttle something - how 'bout FROM the space shuttle? That would be (oh I can't say it because it's just too predictable)... Ollie.

No. They would have done lots during the 60's, for various short tours etc.

was it in 64 that they held one on a "traffic island" in the middle of a street, in Chicago if memory serves?
ALO was hoping they'd be arrested, i guess, but they merely got told "you better move on"

I actually have a good idea that has not been tried yet. They should semi gut the interior of a 747 or 767 - just make sure EVERYONE on board has a good "Line of Sight", have the plane fly from say, NYC to Miami (2 hour flight I think), and have them do a little mini set in the front of the plane and then take questions.... would make an interesting video/DVD to include in the next Box Set.....

now that is one origional Idea! I can see Mick saying "We're gunna have to take a little break now because were heading into some turbulance... Don' GO anywhere!".
