Just been listening to "Its Better To Have (and dont need) by Don Covay, I'm sure that Mick has listened to this guy. Got me thinking, there's been many reference to to Keefs influences , chuck etc, even Micks dancing, J.B. & Tina, but what about his vocal style ? I have no doubt he listened to Don Covay.

Incidentally the Covay track is on a great ACE compilation celebrating the original Second hand specialist record shop in Camden, now sadly gone. It also has Slim's original Shake Your Hips.

Mick certainly listened to him, as he sings on the Dirty Work album and the Stones covered his song "Mercy Mercy".

He's also on that lengthy (15 minute) "Invitation" outtake from those DW sessions.

Hope you're keepin' ok, mate?

Cheers for that Gazza.
what a great song Shake Your hips is by the way. both versions, one of my fave Stones covers.

Ya doing well, I start last 3 week cycle thursday, the first week of which can be a killer, skipped Brian Wilson and primal Scream gigswhich were just at start of last cycle.
Good form at the moment and gotta say that overall none of the more serious side effects.

Yes I've been listening to POB as well, better than i remember it from those boots. but its still not a nailed on all time classic is it ? but it does deserve a bigger audience than on first release.

thanks again for positive vibes.
