one hell of a match in progress - 2 sets a piece.... another rain delay.

I'm 15 minutes away from Wimbledon and the skies don't look good.

To be finished on monday?

Hello,

I ain't never seen tennis played to this standard...could these two nutters hit the ball any harder?

Could Sampras have lived with this?Hmmm...maybe,dunno!

Almost as intense as a boxing match-I mean a good one.

Cheers,

Si.

Hello,

Possibly the most insane game of tennis I've been lucky enough to see.

Unbelievable power with accuracy and athleticism.

Rafa was 51% to Rog's 49%...simply amazing by both guys!

They might as well stop Men's pro tennis now...you will never see another one like that...at least until their next final encounter,heh-heh-heh!

Cheers,

Si.

Guitarbastard: there is nobody who argues about Federer being (at least one of) the best player EVER. He's so all-round, he's got such great movements, differences in ways to play the ball, (hell, he even invents new techniques during matches) it's just unbelievable.

But both have played GREAT tennis this tournament, before this match was even played, the winner (whoever) was already the rightful one: both deserved it equally based upon the tournament. Both would have made history.

Nadal has... what a match!! What a fighter, what an improvement toward a complete player!

And what a great champions, both of them. Real gentlemen, together almost like father and son, or maybe better: like older and younger brother. The greatest characters, greatest competing duo of all time without any doubt.

It was a real nail-biting epic of a final! The first one that has been anything like that other epic final between Bjorg and MacEnroe 25+ years ago. There was nothing to choose between the two players - either would have been a deserving winner.

I used to watch tennis a lot. Ironically even though I am an American Ivan Lendl was my favorite player for some reason. These days I don't follow it much mostly because there is nobody really exciting in the game. Federer is such a bore he makes Pete Sampras look as exciting as Mick Jagger.

"Lyin' awake in a cold, cold sweat. Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get. No escape from the state of confusion I'm in.

Well, Lendl does have US citizenship! He was a great player and a favourite of mine as well. But it's Sampras who must hold the record for the all-time most boring tennis player. Unlike today, finals in which he featured were rarely ever thrilling - there were always so few rallies because he'd win so many points on serve.

I am so happy and thrilled for Nadal! hot smileyHe's my favorite tennis player and I've watched him lose to Federer way too many times and today was his day! It really did make my day! Hope he continues to beat ole Roger, who is by the way, a class act! He was in tears as McEnroe interviewed him as he came off the court but he was a great loser, said all the right things. Nadal, humble as always, said Roger is still #1.....NOT!!! It sounded nice though to be kind in his moment of glory!

There are both great champions, maybe the two best ones ever

Nadal was probably referring to the rankings - in which Roger is still No. 1 (for the time-being, at least). But he was very gracious to the loser - and so was the loser to the winner. Now it's up to Nadal to beat the record set by Bjorg of five consecutive Wimbledon titles.

Hello,

It's also up to The Fed to raise his game too,if he can...this can only be great for us!

All the other mens pros must be seriously questioning what it says on their passports under 'Occupation'.

I still cannot believe the level of play reached last night!

Cheers,

Si.

well yes and no

Federer is by most accounts the most complete player (Mac, Laver, Sampras, Martina, Navratilova and other legends of the game have stated)...and since 1978 (when I got into tennis) he is the best I've ever seen...no one else has such a consistent pro record....he has made something like 12 straight Slam semis?.....has only lost 4 Slam Finals in 16.

He is without a doubt been the second best clay court player over the last 2 years (some would argue the last 3 years)...Nadal happens to be the best clay-courter since Borg (possibly even better) which is no small task.....

Federer has already surpased Sampras' Roland Garros record...Pete only got to the Semis once...Fed's been to the '05 semi's, '06, '07 & '08 finals.

Fed's only 26, soon to be 27....even if his pace lets up (as it appears to be) he's on pace to challenge not Sampras' record of Major titles...but Graf's & Court's records.

I cannot wait for the U.S. Open now....although Olympic tennis has traditionally derailed many a contender since Graf's '88 Golden Slam.

the shoot 'em dead, brainbell jangler!

not a huge tennis fan but that was compulsive viewing. The camera keep showing the same bloke rooting for Federer, it was only when i noticed he was sat next to Gewn Steffani that I realised it was yer man from Bush. He seemed to play every shot whereas Gwen seemed bored to tears.
