This from the same man who brought you "4 Minutes and 33 Seconds", which, of course, consists of total silence lasting for exactly that amount of time. It's great, but you haven't heard anything until you've heard it in mono.

Me and my wife perform this peice to great effect every time we argue...sometimes we do the extended mix!

So they don't just play the notes once, they are actually held down by weights on the church organ so they sound all the time. That must be hell!

Your wife is SILENT for extended periods of time? God, that must be wonderful.

Funny calculation:

639 years is 233.235 days, and that's 5.597.640 hours, so that's 335.858.400 minutes, and 80 minutes per cd means there would be 4.198.230 discs needed.

So with bonus material we're talking a 5 million disc box-set!

Which I guess would be roughly equivalent to The Stones opening and releasing the legendary Vaults on to a box-set! grinning smiley

A five-million-disc box-set? Isn't Neil Young planning something along those lines?

Speaking of funny calculations, here's a fun project for anyone who's just sitting around the house, bored out of their mind this weekend:

Figure out how large the box would have to be.

John Cage has for sure been involved in some 'unusual' music projects. Anyone remember him arranging the first performance of Satie's Vexations?

A piece, consisting of a small piece of music played on piano, repeatedly 840 times. The concert lasted for more than eighteen hours.

I'm pretty sure John Cale was one of the pianists taking turns playing.
