Sounds like the usual Oldham popfodder. Are you sure Mick & Keith are involved in this recording?

It says "Music Director: Keith Richards" (with s) on the label
Production: Andrew Loog Oldham

Oldham was (is?) a genius. He just gave the people what they wanted, at that time.

I initially had some doubts too, but the guy who is singing made and uploaded the video. If anyone is going to be able to say whether they are on the single or not, it's him.

The solo is very simple and keith like, I'd imagine the playing would have been a bit more 'refined' had it been one of the usual session players from the time.

The single (DECCA F12032, as shown above, thanks to our sweet Rockman) has been released at 27th november, 1964.

Recorded in between 15-20 nov '64

"All I want is my baby" written by Jagger/Richards and NOT by Oldham/Richards as the label stated.

Guitar problaby by Big Jim Sullivan or Jimmy Page

Ask ALO, he might recall. Keef is another story?

Other than them being the most obvious and repeated names whenever a session guitarist is mentioned from those days, what other proof is there it is page or sullivan? One of them could be the solo guitarist or on acoustic, but the guy singing has told us Keith plays the guitar solo.

The solo is pretty basic and not so well played, it certainly has the feel of keith's solo's of the time. It does seem a bit odd that if it is keith though.

Page was far from the only one to own a fuzz box in 1964, The Beatles had a Maestro FZ-1 a whole year before this record was released for example.

ALO a genius? I don't persoannly think so. His productive career was very short-lived (1963-late 60's). Other than the Stones and Immediate he hasn't really done a great deal. So he's not quite a one trick pony.
His early sleeve notes are frankly as emabarrasing to read now as they were 40+ years ago. His production standards are pretty average. He's not in the same league as George Martin, Geoff Emerick and countless others.
But then I've never understood why Phil Spector is referred to as a "genius" either. It seems the more eccentric (or awful, dependent on your viewpoint) a person's behaviour is, the more generous we are in the critical appraisal process. Strange really.
Actually I thought ALO's two volumes of autobiography were excellent - even allowing for some literary licence on his behalf, they have captured the times as well as most other product.
Shame if there isn't going to be any more.

At his peak, Oldham had something, just like the stones themselves.

I've only read the first book, but it is a great one! For some reason I've always had a disliking for Andrew, he just came across as a complete arsehole on all levels, but reading his first book gave me a lot of respect for the guy!

He was very influenced by the times, but he also influenced those times a great deal. Right guy, right time, right place kind of thing!

He is the person who uploaded the video, on the youtube page, he says it in the side info bar.

'1964 recording by Bobby Jameson in London England of "ALL I WANT IS MY BABY" with MICK JAGGER and ANDREW OLDHAM on backup vocals and KEITH RICHARDS on guitar solo.'

However, I found a blog by him and he mentions that the backing track was already on tape when he recorded his vocals so I'm assuming he's assuming it's Keith on fuzz guitar. smiling smiley

Ah, thanks for the info. Maybe we can ask mr. Jameson to shed a little light on his assumptions.

To my ears the solo doesn't sound like keith at all, and it also doesn't sound like Page.

Yes, many times. Especially in the Karnbach book, which is THE source for the early years. At work, so dont have it in front of me, so cant cite a page. Will take a look after work.

... i've found miles of inaccuracies about the early years in the Karnbach book -
not necessarily about personnel/credits, but about dates. maybe they were corrected in later editions.
no offense to Karnbach - the history of this band is really a bugger to research.
so many inaccuracies have been written then copied all over the place - even the eyewitnesses get confused.

Can you list some of the inaccuracies? JK would love to know about them.

>> Can you list some of the inaccuracies? <<

... maybe i should send you an email about it, stone-relics, but for example
in the edition i had access to for a while there, the dating of the events of april/may 1963
were all off. maybe he's already corrected them. that would be way cool,
especially since he's such a highly-regarded and widely-quoted source.
