Stoned - the movie

So last night I had a few friends over to my pad to watch movies, have some brews, etc... Just kickin it with tunes and high def gaming/movies. One of my friends brings over the movie Stoned, which I had not seen but had been wanting to see for quite a while. So everyone arrives and we start watching it...

Stoned is a horrible movie. Its like watching a soap opera or some horrible made-for-tv drama. I am curious if anyone on this board dug the movie... and if so, please tell me why! I honestly WANTED to like the movie but found it to be way too much of a caricature of Brian Jones and every person related to him.

Help me understand the merit of this film!

I came across it once on TV and just saw the part of Brian being discovered in the pool. It made me sick and I had to turn the station right away.

High point of the movie were the breasts on the actress who played Anita.

I do not like the way they depicted charlie watts. Theres the scene where mick keith and charlie go to brians house to tell him he's out of the band... First of all, its been widley reported that they went there to give brian one last chance to tour and he declined. Granted, they pretty much knew he would. I doubt the the stones are making that up.. but I wasn't there myself so who knows.. but when they leave, Mick and Keith both shake his hand, but Charlie doensn't. He just has this childish look on his face like "better you than me" and walks out. that is SUCH bullshit. Charlie and Bill were the only ones from the stones who went to brian's funeral. They didn't bother to show that.

I agree. What Brian deserves is a decent TV documentary about his life. Sure, aspects of his private life would have to be covered, but the focus would be his contribution to the Stones and his influences-particularly World music -well before it became fashionable.
Shortly after his death BBC Radio did broadcast an hour programme - I think it was called "A Story for our time"-not too sure, but from memory it was very good and balanced. I believe Alexis Korner was a contributor and he certainly wouldn't have put himself out for any crap. Any tapes out there?

Merit? There is no merit to Stoned. It's really dreadful garbage. Brian comes off like such a unredeemable creep, one could be led to believe that he deserved everything that happened to him. Jagger and Richards don't fare much better.

The guy that played Brian did not look a thing like him. He lacked Brian's beauty. I unfortunately watched the entire film. It was like watching soft porn. I think they focused upon all of the sex and drugs and none of the rock n roll. In fact, there really was no story. It bounced around too much with no cohesiveness. My sister says that it was supposed to be based upon the book, Who Killed Christopher Robin, but they totally missed the mark.
