Tim Ries replaced Andy Snitzer for the No Security tour in '99.

Andy Snitzer went to work with Paul Simon, and asked Tim to replace him.

they may play differently on their own stuff but I bet the change makes zero difference to the sound of the stones.

tim was friends with michael davis - michael was tim's connection into the gig.

"Snitzer had been playing with the Stones but decided not to go on their upcoming Bridges to Babylon tour, and asked Ries if he'd like to take his place."

Ries knew all three horn players from NYC, but Davis was his main advocate. For certain it makes zero difference in the sound of the band. If you listen, the sound of the section is dominated by bobby and the sound of the brass; as it should be.

True enough, queenie. Tim and Michael know each other from Maria Schneider's band. Tim and Michael often play the Stones Project. (I am happy that both are playing in Amsterdam next month!)

Tim has become more important to the Stones over the past few years. Very often Tim moves to the other side of the stage to support Chuck on keyboard.

besides : Tim is the only real professor the Stones have ever employed...!!!

it really is a drag when this board becomes a marketing tool for the agents/shills of the sidemen. point of fact: when the stones stopped using two dedicated keyboard players (matt clifford was not asked to return after steel wheels), they handed off secondary keyboard duties to one of the horn players (snitzer). when ries showed up, he simply did the same exact gig snitzer did. as for his "professorship", since when is academia important to the stones??

it's cool if you're an advocate for ries, or leavell, or whomever, just identify yourself as such.

- thanks about the info on snitzer. hadn't realised he'd played keyboards too.
- the professorship was only meant as a joke. sorry you did not get that, Sub. (no offence meant)
