I always hated this version even with Mick in the video. Funny thing is after this the Stones would play it and the crowd would do the "whoooo" part like you see here. Guess we owe that to her.

You can download it from LimeWire, etc. I always liked this version and thought the video was funny.

Is one of Mick's nervous ticks to move his jaw as if he was chewing gum?? He does it here when he walks through the crowd and he does it constantly on stage, even today. I catch him chomping away...but he doesn't have any gum.

No AFAIK she never played with the Stones. At least I can't find anything on "The Complete Works". Just that video but there's no audible Stones participation.

Friends forever, Ryan! smiling smiley
This is the most vomitable piece of music ever shot on film.
I would rather saw thru my left leg than push the Play-button.

Wow this is embarrassing to watch. How did she get Mick to agree to be in the video? And get a pie thrown in his face? Geeze. Total piece of crap version.

It's amazing, nothing new about it, but how different our taste in music can be. Bette Midlers version of Beast of Burden is in my opinion great stuff !! Maybe I'm pussing it a little bit to far, but I think her version is even better than Stones' version !

Both versions of the song can not be compared. The Stones version is beautiful in its subtle guitar interplay, while Bette makes a rocking feast out of it.
Í love both versions and never felt the need to compare them. It's just two different songs.

Glad there's at least one person on here that sees something in it. Personally, I love it, I think vocally she does a cracking job. Ever seen the movie "The Rose", supposedly loosely based on the life of Janis Joplin with Bette Middler playing the role ? Can't remember the name of the opening number, what a belter though ?

As for those on here that slam the video ... dear o dear. Major sense of humour failure all round. It's very tongue in cheek, why not take it so ? O well, each to theirs.

Yes I can ... "Whose Side Are You On", followed by "Midnight In Memphis". Go Bette go !

Ok then:

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

Or

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo (etc)

Sample:

I went into an ale-house I used to frequent
and I told the landlady my money was spent.
I asked her for credit, she answered me nay,
Such "a custom like yours I can have any day

And it's no, nay, never,
no, nay, never, no more
will I play the wild rover
no, never, no more

Tongue-in-cheek, ok. I think she's pretty funny too.
Perhaps also the video - but I wont watch it again.
But she destroyed my youth! I will never, no, nay, never
forgive her that. And she - which is even worse -
saw to I never can hear this song again.

hmmmmmmm, this is a damn good question cause it really DEPENDS, you know....... depends on your situation, what kind of meds you have in your pocket, what kind of smoke is about, how frisky are you feeling, and what kind of alcohol is floating around - it's a very complicated mathematical type thing, kind of like the SPACE SHUTTLE..... oh, and you gotta factor in the large boobs too.... those get some points depending.......(I'd have to see 'em first personally but that is in no way mandatory for those that don't care)... I'm stumped, can't give a clear yes or no on this one.....
