Agree with you TooTough. The Knebworth version of Wild Horses is the best ever, and Ronnie's best performance EVER. Fantastic.

My favourite for a long time has been the LA 13th July 75-version, and it still is.

But my favourite Hand Of Fate is from Knebworth 76. That's simply one of the toughest pieces of music ever played, listen to it, it's wonderful.

Love the Knebworth version, beautiful! It's a DVD i don't have in my collection - is there a particular 'version' you'd recommend?

I have a great DVD from the Knebworth show, just called "Knebworth 1976" - a great layout with the front cover just like the Black and Blue album.
I think most DVDs from Knebworth only have these tracks;
Little Red Rooster, Wild Horses, Star Star, Midnight Rambler, Route 66, Honky Tonk Women, Tumbling Dice, JJ Flash and Street Fighting Man - but this DVD contains some some extra tracks; Around and Around, Hot Stuff and You Gotta Move.
I have 3 DVDs from Knebworth, this is the best IMO.

I still love the Muscle Shoals original (SF) the best, but Gram Parsons' lead vocal (so different from Jaggers' feline, wordly take), really adds something fresh - an emotional directness - on his 1970 pre-cover (Burittos' second album). Gram's vocal is hearbreaking, tho the rhythm section - lacking Watts & Wymans' grace - keep it from being a classic.

Despite of 1975 being a much greater year for Rolling Stones than 1976, me too am favourable to the Knebworth version of Wild Horses without any hesitation. Among the audio-only versions; Jacksonville 1975 is pretty damn good....and probably Newcastle 1971 as well.

Nothing surpasses the original version, IMHO...

I was unaware of a recording from Newcastle 1971.
Could you tell me about the source/quality/set list etc?

Cheers

No sorry there are no recordings, I just imagine it to be really good. Most probably played at those first 1971 concerts.

Dammit, I got all excited then! lol

I remember reading a review in an old Melody Maker for a 1971 show.
I'm pretty certain it was Newcastle, but I could be wrong.
The review said that they played new songs "You Got To Fix It" which is obviously "Bitch", "Wild Horses", and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"!!!
I dream of the day that a tape of that show appears!

Those 75 versions! Raw emotion. Unsurpassed musicianship. Best Ronnie ever. KEITH's OPENING LICK TEARS YOU APART! These versions are probably the best ballads ever recorded in the history of music!

1975, 13th, is soo great!!

Still remember when I'd gotten the VINYL boot "Who went to church" and listened to these tracks for the first time.

A sad sad song : still get the shivers. Great Ronnie solo - and that moment when the guitar plays the wrong chord.
It sounded soo good on the first Vinyl pressings!

The original studio version is still the ultimate to me but live I love these 75 electric versions!

Sorry but I do not agree.

Best version ever: Stripped 1995
