Happy St. Patrick's Day 17th Of March
Posted by: Baboon Bro ()
Date: March 16, 2008 05:54

As we just leave behind us Hungary´s national day of March 15,
we'll quickly approachin' the Paddy day.

Stumbled over this hommage to Ronnie Drew from Dubliners..
Ya know, the ol' chainsaw-voice...

This is from a charity gig with Sinead, Shane, Bono/U2 etc etc -
Ballad Of Ronnie Drew, for the Irish Cancer Society.
I really hope Ronnie manage to fight back the cancer!

Sinead & Chieftains doin' Foggy Dew.. Really worth hearin'! & watchin'!

Try and hear Luke singing Scorn Not His Simplicty. Not many could sing this song and and get accross the love and anger, others who have tried it sound makwish and sentimental but Luke could never be that. I was touched by this song when i firts heard it as a schoolboy many many years (decades) ago but now being a father of a disabled son it touches me even more. Luke was something special.

Happy St. Patricks day.

I don't even know why we celebrate St. Patrick's Day....I'm sorry Gazza and my other Irish brothers and sisters, all I know is that in the USA people have parades, drink lots of beer, and wear something green or some @#$%& will try to pinch you.......

....so, I guess this Patrick guy did some good things and became a saint?

(and yeah, wise guys, I am too lazy to google it)

Luke - Ireland has no snakes so every year they go nuts with gratitude.

Imagine if St Patrick had ever visited Australia???

Hey Lukester, maybe this will cheer you up. Have a look at last year's St. Patrick's Day parade in New Orleans.

Now, get out there, drink some green beer, and have a good time!

In many parts of North America, Britain, and Australia expatriate Irish and ever-growing crowds of people with no Irish connections but who may proclaim themselves "Irish for a day" also celebrate St. Patrick's Day, usually with the consumption of traditionally Irish alcoholic beverages (beer and stout, such as Murphys, Beamish, Smithwicks, Harp, or Guinness; Irish whiskey; Irish coffee; or Baileys Irish Cream) and by wearing green-coloured clothing.

Yesterday, Gerry Adams the President of Sinn Fein, came to Buffalo to march in a neighborhood St. Patricks Day parade and rub shoulders with the local politicians. I brought my 3 daughters down to see the parade thru the predominately Irish neighborhood streets and as Gerry Adams and Rep.Brian Higgins walked by, I looked around the to see that nobody recognized Adams where I was standing but then again for some, drinking beer and festivities overshadow politicians.

I was happy to see him walking thru the neighborhood.

no , he just provokes hatred and killing with his bigotry over the years. dont get me wrong , i have no illusions about Adams either and his past. but Paisleys stubborness to go to the table prolonged the killing.

No argument there. Not quite as bad, though. Thankfully that shit is behind us for the most part now.

but of course!

Thanks for the Ronnie Drew clips. Saw him interviewed on TV a while back and was horrified to see how unrecognisable he was following his treatment for throat cancer. Great singer and a real character. I hope he makes a full recovery.

Sorry Gazza, I'm not entrenched in the politics over there, but they seem to love him here. Maybe someday you can explain to me your feelings about the issues there. Here is link to the story in todays newspaper:

Adams is a murdering scumbag -
but this thread isn't about that (as Baboon, correctly states)
it's a celebration of the fantastic music and culture,
this beautiful Island, has to offer.

Enjoy a Guinness and have fun.
