On Porter Wagnors last album he mentions them in a song. Porter was a legendary muscian from Nashville. I forget the exact line, "She likes rockin' out to The Rolling Stones".. Any others out there ..

Check out Charlie Watts is God by Jackpot. They're a brilliant, but obscure (in the UK at least) band from California.

There's a song by a female country singer.......can't remember which one.....I think its' called "the Secret to Life" or something like that but it mentions one of the "secrets" or pleasures or something is "Rolling Stones records"...

Also there's the Alan Jackson song, "Don't Rock The Jukebox" with the line...."don't rock the jukebox, I wanna hear George Jones, cause my heart ain't ready for the Rolling Stones....."

A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara'd into Submission)
written by Paul Simon

I been Norman Mailered, Maxwell Taylored.
I been John O'Hara'd, McNamara'd.
I been Rolling Stoned and Beatled till I'm blind.
I been Ayn Randed, nearly branded
Communist, 'cause I'm left-handed.
That's the hand I use, well, never mind!

I been Phil Spectored, resurrected.
I been Lou Adlered, Barry Sadlered.
Well, I paid all the dues I want to pay.
And I learned the truth from Lenny Bruce,
And all my wealth won't buy me health,
So I smoke a pint of tea a day.

I knew a man, his brain so small,
He couldn't think of nothin' at all.
He's not the same as you and me.
He doesn't dig poetry. He's so unhip that
When you say Dylan, he thinks you're talkin' about Dylan Thomas,
Whoever he was.
The man ain't got no culture,
But its alright, ma,
Everybody must get stoned.

I been Mick Jaggered, been silver daggered.
Andy Warhol, won't you please come home?
I been mothered, fathered, aunt and uncled,
Been Roy Halee'd and Art Garfunkel'd.
I just discovered somebody's tapped my phone.

Folk Rock
I just lost my harmonica Albert

from Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme’

Not a song, but on the radio station I was listening to on the way in this morning, they were talking about "being cool". One of the guys said, "Nobody is cool from the beginning, except maybe Mick Jagger."

Nazareth mentioned the Stones in "Shanghaied In Shanghai".

"Mister we got a gig in Arizona second billing to the Rolling Stones", then it breaks into the riff from Satisfaction. A great song!

Nice one. You uncovered the origins of my IORR name. On this subject there's a great freaky jazz track called Jagger The Dagger by Eugene McDaniels on the Headless Heroes Of The Apocalypse album.

The Grateful Dead - New Speedway Boogie

Please don't dominate the rap, jack, if you've got nothing new to say.
If you please, don't back up the track; this train's got to run today.
I spent a little time on the mountain, I spent a little time on the hill.
I heard someone say "Better run away", others say "better stand still".

Now I don't know, but I been told it's hard to run with the weight of gold.
Other hand I have heard it said, it's just as hard with the weight of lead.

Who can deny, who can deny, it's not just a change in style?
One step done and another begun and I wonder how many miles.
I spent a little time on the mountain, I spent a little time on the hill.
Things went down we don't understand, but I think in time we will.
Now, I don't know but I was told in the heat of the sun a man died of cold.
Keep on coming or stand and wait, with the sun so dark and the hour so late.
You can't overlook the lack, jack, of any other highway to ride.
It's got no signs or dividing lines and very few rules to guide.

I spent a little time on the mountain, I spent a little time on the hill.
I saw things getting out of hand, I guess they always will.
Now I don't know but I been told
If the horse don't pull you got to carry the load.
I don't know whose back's that strong, maybe find out before too long.

One way or another, one way or another,
One way or another, this darkness got to give.

There's a really fabulous song by Bobbie Gentry called Apartment 21 with the lyrics printed below. Sheryl Crow fans will love it. In fact it would be a great song for Sheryl to cover.

"Rain on my Sunday shoes
Pick up the daily news
Looks like tomorrows blues
But its better than none

Call on the telephone
knowin' that he's not home
I'll put on the Rollin' Stones
And I can have me some fun"

Was way cool seeing Ian Hunter tour with Ringo in 2001, and getting to hear him sing that line (My brother's back at home with his Beatles and his Stones) while there was an actual Beatle onstage with him.

Here is a really clever verse from the brilliant Aussie - Paul Kelly
From the song "Change Your Mind" on 2001's great album Nothing But a Dream....

If I could make WILD HORSES
Come and get their hay
Maybe I could make you
SWAY my way

"Do you mr Jones?..."-Ballad Of A Thin Man.
"Now your dancing child
with his chinese suite,
he spoke to me,
I teok his flute
You know I was not
very cute to nim,
was I?..." etc.-I Want You.
