Apparently 1975, they were rehearsing for 75 us tour in Montauk Long Island & i have read previously ( can't remember where )they were aware their might be trouble looming from Hells angels. In Robert Greenfields book, STP, from 72 us tour, he details a conversation Peter Rudge had with 4 Hells Angels in a New York cafe, demanding money from the stones, apparently they were out to get Mick & Keith in 71\72 when they were mixing Exile in LA

"Just back from Oslo. Excellent show. But why special treatment of a certain association present at certain free concert 1969?
6-7 of them escorted in on the field by police from the left side of the stage. Seems very strange that they get such special treatment, regarding the past?"

Yeah, I was also thinking about what I wrote back then after the show.
And they were also in Copenhagen, and other people here have reported seeing them at other Stonesgigs during ABB, even seeing them at afterparties thrown by the band. Maybe the Stones made some kind of deal with them?

do ya think there is any chance some element in the Angels today (most likely from California) might still want to whack 'em and if the right time and situation comes along, that they would try to do so?

I've seen different groups of HA members at different Stones parties in Europe. I think I remember seing them at least in Frankfurt at the hotel after the show, definitely in Gothenburg and in Oslo. Three of them are friends of a band member... They're Keith's pals. These HA guys are German, Dutch and Danish. One of them told me he'd done time for murder. (Danish guy, joncke?) So I suddenly had to go to the bathroom. (Seriously, I got very upset.)

They were running around in their nappies at the time of Altamont and the Montauk sessions. But yes, I understand the sceptisism. And I see them as criminals, like the mob. However, they love and admire Keith so much they'd take a bullit for him. They're practically wiggling their "tails" when he asks them over, and they bring presents and eat off his palm, so to speak. I think these three are quite harmess guys, but the rest of them I wouldn't want to meet in a "non Stones setting".

Sonny Barger is a REAL @#$%& and he talked about his NEGATIVE feelings about the Stones for a long time after Altamont and I always worried about the Hell's Angels. I doubt Mick was UNAWARE! No way! In the late 70's there was a book out, that I hate to admit I bought, called " The Man who Killed Mick Jagger" and it freaked me out so bad I never read it all the way through. Typical concert scenario, huge crowd, maniac gets a gun into the show.... I always scan the crowds at Stones shows and I am glad for security,& metal detectors etc. It has always been my worst nightmare.

I'm sure a group of the idiots got drunk and thought they would get revenge for Altamont. When they were thrown overboard they just sobered up and gave up. The Hell's Angels are overrated in general. I'm sure the vast majority of them don't give two cents about Mick/Keith now.

why does that utube clip keep repeating itself in the audio?

They may exist worldwide, but is there really tight central control and unification or are they just loosely affiliated?

Also, I doubt that an Angel from say Sweden or Denmark is exactly the same as one from California.

Whereas, the Mafia does have a sort of council of families operating in both the US and Sicily.

Don't ask me - ask the internet. there's tons of it.
anyway here's a quote of an article:

"The Hells Angels are not organised crime in the sense of traditional organised crime.

"Traditional organised crime - such as the Italian mafia and the Japanese Yakuza - are typically organised on a pyramid structure with one boss who gives the orders flowing downwards and to whom the money flows upward.

"Within the Hells Angels it's much more of a tribal or family concept."

That seems a little bizarre...I never went through a metal detector for a show.

I'm against ALL types of searches. Living here in the USA, I've seen my fair share of scare tactics.

I've had to go through many metal detectors here in the USA, every time I go to Gillette Stadium, in Foxboro, Ma for example! Also at Madison Square Garden I have had to go through that kind of security. Bizarre as it seems, there are good reasons for it.

I recall reading during the '72 Tour Mick and Keith had guns with them on stage. Does anyone else remember reading it or better yet can it be confirmed?

If the "so called" murder attempt is true, how far was Andy Warhol's compound from the ocean? I don't ever recall Mick having a "Holiday Residence" on Long Island as noted in the article.

Finally, during the "Some Girls" tour, didn't the NY Chapter of Hell's Angels (on East 7th St, in the Village) personally escort the band to The Palladium? Wasn't that the "official" the hatchet has been buried?

The Angels are on E. 3rd st....not 7th st, that's the McSorley's gang on E. 7th. smileys with beer

mickschix, I've been to god knows how many concerts at MSG...from 77-07, and not once did I ever go through a metal detector....maybe they had one for Heavy Metal bands? That's about the only type of show I haven't seen there...unless you count Ted Nugent with AC/DC back in 79.

I miss the days of walking into MSG and being greeted with clouds of smoke. grinning smiley

There are no metal detectors at MSG. (Except maybe for stupid rap shows, where there SHOULD be)

i barely was searched at the clapton/winwood shows...

also, i must say the one HA i met was very nice - i was taking a pic of their headquarters in NYC a few years ago. one came out and i became nervous but he offered to take a pic of me and my friends in front of their door!

i can't believe it - the story was just on the local TV news in chicago and also is now the main story on the yahoo homepage!

both claim the murder attempt was in 1969.
