if I dont't count live-albums or compilations

60ies - Their Satanic Majesties Request (only if there hast to be a worst album of the sixties)
70ies - IORR
80ies - Dirty Work
90ies - BtB
00 - ???? there's only ABB and I just LOVE that album, and still play it very, very often.

just some factual input:

re Got Live If You Want It:

>> otherwise it's, what, just them in the studio live and the audience O/Ded right? <<

wrong - two numbers are studio tracks with overdubbed audience. the rest is performance
(with some vocal overdubs no doubt, but no more than the usual for concert albums)
(oh and: yeah some people actually like it - i mean just listen to them GO!)

re A Bigger Bang:

>> [Keith's] lack of songwriting credits <<

?! Keith's got songwriting-collaboration credits galore on the album.
the band's (and producer's) discussions of the album maintain that it was a highly collaborative effort
apart from a few tracks that are "all Mick" and a few (including Rough Justice) that are "all Keith".
i'm aware that some fans feel they "know" Mick wrote "almost everything" on ABB,
but let's bear in mind that that's just a few outsiders' opinions, which i don't see (or hear) the reason for.
(really well-written & insightful post Rocky Dijon!
i'm picking on that misstatement only because i care. :E have some popcorn)

60's: Between the Buttons. They tried to sound like a cocky English band, but they better leave that to the Kinks and Small Faces.
70's: Black & Blue: Three good songs (Hot Stuff, Hand of fate, Memory Motel) and one good groove (Hey Negrita) don't make an album.
80's: Steel Wheels. The album has aged encredibly bad. Slipping Away remains nice, but the rest is unlistenable nowadays.
90's: Voodoo Lounge. The worst sounding Stones cover band. It's a totally fake concept (let's redo what we did in the 60's!) album. Worst drum sound ever recorded by the Stones -and that includes Dirty Work!
2000's: Live Licks. Useless fodder. Even I could have edited that album better with my $300 Protools set.

70s - LOVE YOU LIVE, the worst live album of their career. The song selection could have been much better and there was obviously better shows recorded (from the boots I've heard).

Love you live is one of their best ones! Although they could have picked much better shows.

70s: Sticky Fingers

?????????

what kind of crack are you smoking?

Remember Jon Landau, Springsteen's major domo,
gave Sticky Fingers a "zero" stars review in Rolling Stone magizine.
It's a hoot of a read, actually. I believe he's also the one
who called Clapton in the Cream days "the master of the cliche."
Personally, I think Landau did these reviews just to be different
and make a name for himself.
As Dylan said regarding his review of the Pat Garret soundtrack
"Landau's got his head up his ass."
Mind you , Pat Garret is not a mind-blowing album,
but that's not the point.

I read the review and actaully I think he has some points. Think about it. He's comapring i to Beggars and Bleed, two albums with that album feel, no toungue in cheek. Would they have put IGTB or SM on Beggars or Bleed? No, they didnt. BS is a single, WH and sway are great but he says Sway lacks direction, and well, it does. Dead Floers worked great live so I disagree about that, I like the song, but compared to the "real emotions" in Let it bleed? I'm just saying, I never listen to Sticky Fingers and yet I think it has some great songs on it (three of their greatest live songs: BS (70s versions), YGM and Dead Flowers. Not a great album.

All records after BLack&Blue.

I'll stick to the CD's catalogue

60: Flowers, for the same reasons already noted in another thread - some songs are great, but as a whole the thing doesn't work. 12x5 is a close contender.

70: Soup. Great songs, but it has less character than its competitors

80: Steel Wheels: Some good stuff, some not so good. Hate the synth sounds.

90: Voodoo: awful production. I can't say exactly what I don't like in it. It's forgettable. Mean disposition and T&T are great, but the rest I don't like that much. Worst Stones album on my book period.

10: 40 lix. It does not make sense. In the CD era just any fool can burn a best of including DECCA and CBS.

Sticky Fingers ? Rolling Stones No 2 ? Holy mother

With you all the way here Erik. Some kind of evil hoodoo has taken hold of some of our compadres.

My choice would be:

60s - Got Live If You Want It
70s - Love You Live
80s - Dirty Work
90s - No Security

60s: GLIYWI and The Rolling Stones No 2
70s: Sticky Fingers (great songs: Dead Flowers, BS, Sway, MM - and two pointless songs (IGTB, YGM is great great great live but not here, Bitch: great ending of a song and the solo is fantastic - the album feel is not there)
80s: Ditry Work
90s: Voodo Lounge/Flashpoint

Don't be lazy, and type in the name of the full albums: Got Live If You Want It... it's very tiring to encode all the albums!
