YOU GOT THE SILVER - Mick sings lead here - which do you prefer?

Here's the brilliant YOU GOT THE SILVER with Mick singing lead. Which version do you prefer? Keith on lead (LET IT BLEED Version) or this Unreleased Mick on Lead version?

Mick, because of his more powerful singing. Any idea where you can get this version?

Mick's one is the "accomplished" version, nicely crafted and all. But Keith's vocal adds the milk to the coffee and makes this song a unique one IMO.

Impossible to judge fairly for me.

I heard Mick's version after years of the original. For me Keith's voice is as essential as the slide guitar.

I'll stick with Keith on this one.

Mick's vocals are simply great as usual, but Keith's vocals sound a bit more heartfelt on this one. Must admit that I am not a big fan of Keith's voice today, but his voice in the first two Stones decades is killer ... You Got The Silver ... Happy ... Coming Down Again ... Run Rudolph Run ... Toronto 1977 solo sessions ...

Difficult .....I like both Mick's and Keef's version

You know what would have been great? Mick singing 1st verse, then Keith 2nd verse, etc. and the chorus they sing together.

That would be great!!!

No doubt about it. Keith's version is the ultimate version. He puts a lot more feeeeling in it.

I think Jagger butchers this song. Wasn't this a "Keith" song anyway? Keith all the way, baby.

Well, I think she LOOKS better.

I wonder how Mick & Keith decided on which version would be used?

I think it would be easy enough to make that happen nowadays. Interesting thought. I might give it a try myself when I have time.

Just wanted to add a remark in the same vein too ... funny that this chance to produce a fake "duet" outtake has escaped the bootleggers so far! Well, it should be quite easy by doing a matrix mix using the two sources - Mick 1st, Keith 2nd, chorus together...or Keith 1st, Mick 2nd, chorus together - endless possibilities to produce a whole number of outtakes!

Great idea... - well apart from the fact that both the Keith- and the Mick vocals are pretty much the same melody. It's not like "I Need You" or the 45rpm version of "Sway" - where there's a harmony goin on

Well...right...but a missing harmony vocal would not prevent a label like SODD from rushing out an "You Got The Silver Sessions" CD soon, right? At least it would be something new and unique on this label, not just the same old recycling job!

Hey, they could throw in the speeded up so-called "Keith version" of Far Away Eyes, dubbed with the correct speeded version, presented as a "bonus CDR"....only $20 dollars extra...

I do really like the Mick version a lot, it's really really great. But Keith's voice is so sweet on this one, I have to go with his version.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

They probably threw the dices for Gimme Shelter and You Got The Silver.

I thought the story was that mick's vocal was accidentally erased, and he had already left for Australia to film Ned Kelly, so it was up to keith to redo it. Is that no longer the accepted tale?

There is an article, I think it's on rollingstone.com right now, where Mick mentions having to record vocals on a song that got erased accidentally when they were working on the record in London and they got to LA and were finishing the record. So maybe that is the song?

The difference to me is that Mick's version is a bit more full of angry hurt at the end, where he really lets it go. But overall I like Keith's - there is pain throughout the entire song that comes through more with Keith singing it whereas Mick just sounds a bit mad.
