of gospel, on the strength of "thats how strong my love is " I bought a Solomon Bourke Cd, "Dont give up on me ", very cool if you like that stuff. I was hoping for some recomendations of similar.
And all this talk about Shine A LIGHT, just makes you realise how talented they are, that song for me ranks up in the top of any Stones list. Because of their versitility it has opened up so many musical styles for me.
anyway ...any help would be appriciated.
btw, my best Stones moment....leaning on the stage (cat wwalk,Keiths side)at the Enmore Theatre show, got a smile from Mick and the opening riff from Keith "BrownSugar" right up close !! it was the coolest night ever.

and agree wholeheartaly "Let it loose " is pure gold to my ears.

Cant wait to hear those reports coming back in from Berlin in a couple of days, would love to be there doing that. Good luck all.

This thread could be interpreted differently.

Exile is their best soul album. OOOH is another.

In the Blues Brothers, after they preform "everybody needs somebody to love" John Belushi says "that was Wilson Picket." that is a Solomon Burke song is it not? could there really be such a glaring mistake in that movie, or is there an explanation for that?

...Didnt simply Wilson overshadow Burke with his rendition?
Cf. Jimi Hendrix vs. Dylan with All Along The Watchtower.

Yeah, Wilson had the bigger hit with "Everybody...", crossing over to the pop charts. I've got to mention James Carr and Dyke and the Blazers; not as well known as some others, but every bit as good.

As long as people don't think that it is a BB song, I don't care cool smiley
But yes, it's (co-)written by Burke, although Picket sings it too: [en.wikipedia.org]

Solomon & Stones cut Everybody in 1964....Pickett covered it
in 1967...Solomon's is a lower geared gospel groove while Pickett
pushes it more into an uptempo anthem type affair that the Blues Brothers ape..

Yeah, ive noticed that the Blues Bros. horn arrangement is different than it is on the stones and solomon burke versions. that may have been influenced by Picket's version. its a different chord progression that I actually think sounds better. uplifting could be one way of describing it, but to me there's more of a tension on it, the way one part leads into the other.

I've got the 4 disc set (the 9 disc was out of my price range) - great, great stuff!

The Blues Brothers copped the horn part from "Turn On Your Lovelight" by Bobby Bland and applied it to "Everybody..."

Rockman covered it well.

Anyone mentioned the great Jackie Wilson yet? Muddy Water of course!

so thats where its from eh? thanks. the part im refering to is the bridge when the lyrics are "Some times I feel.. a little sad inside".

on the "a little sad inside" it goes higher instead of lower, IMO it sounds much better that way. I always have. I was first introduced to that song from the Blues Bros. When I heard the stones version i was a little dissapointed because the bridge didnt sound the same.
