i didn't notice any cuts to any songs, which ones did they cut ? have to give it a listen again.
Fav comp is Rolled Gold the orig UK vinyl as this is what turned me onto the Stones
wow... I own all of them, but as you said, I never realised how many of them there actually were... I do like the singels sets a lot!

Of all the compilations out there of The Rolling Stones, even the ones they didn't approve of...which one is your favourite one? Overall and then maybe by decade. I know that might be splitting hairs because there were so many in the 1970s but just curious...
My fave is still Sucking In The Seventies
When I was young it was Hot Rocks
When I was a bit older it was Rewind because it had the lyrics!
I've always liked Made In The Shade because it's so goofy. As is Time Waits For No One.

Through the Past Darkly was my first RS album, and when it came out it it had a unique octagonal cover, w/ a wonderfully expressive group shot - the all have great hair on this one . Dedicated to Brian, it also contained three classic singles not on any studio album, 'Dandelion', 'Jumping Jack', and their then-current 'Honky Tonk Woman'
I also like the rare stuff on Sucking In The 70s, which I program as an ep.

it was the UK album that was far superior...2 extra/5 different
tracks......better line-up of songs and that classic fish-eye cover...

I've had a vinyl album for years called 'Slow Rollers' which is pretty good. As the title suggests it's made up of slower tracks/ballads from the 60's so it's a bit different. I'll have to dig it out as I think it's on some obscure (possibly foreign) label.

As an album, Forty Licks is almost unbeatable, by any artist, on song quality (per disc price) alone - even though they cut from some songs on CD2.

Never thought of Flowers as a comp, since only 3 of its 12 songs had been realeased on another Stones album. I love it, and program 'Sad Day' and 'What To Do' in place of the 3 reruns. Has a distinct identity, less willful than 'Buttons', and most of the tracks are classic.

I listened to all three of the discs of the London Years last night. It really is a great great set. I always have to repeat I Don't Know Why at least 3 times, it sounds so FREAKING good loud!!!

On 40L, Beast of Burden is cut as well (same short version as on Sucking in the 70s), and also Miss you, what a shame to edit out the sax solo...
Of course if you add the tracks, 40L is unbeatable, but as a compilation to be fond of, I think it lacks personality so to say... It has no specific concept, and the cover is ugly, and in a way it comes too late for us to develop an attachment to it the way some of you got into "Through the past darkly" etc.
I am not particularly attached to any compilation however. Have good memories of listening to "More Hot Rocks".
Of course if you add the tracks, 40L is unbeatable, but as a compilation to be fond of, I think it lacks personality so to say... Yeah it's a shame about 40 Licks being edited like that especially as it was a landmark anniversary compilation. I'd have been happier if they'd sacrified one of the new songs on it to free up space (imo Keys To Your Love).
Still, I don't imagine the cuts would have been noticed by the mainstream buyers.

I'd rather they keep the new songs. I have the old ones. And these tracks were the only neew studio material the Stones issued from '98 - 05. I happen to like the songs - i'd give'em a B+, in other words not as good as ABB or VL or two thirds of B2B, but good songs albeit on the light side.
I forgot I always liked More Hot Roxks. Never bought HR '64 - 71, except as part of the Mofi box - thde latter's the only (US) RS album I never bought.

I can't listen to Forty Licks, it's such a predictable choice of songs, and when compiling 4 decades on a 2CD set, you're ruining the mood of each song completely. Also...the cover is horrible

Thru the past darkly is a great Compilation. its a combination of their "psychadellic" stuff and early hard rocking stuff. I had a lot of fun listening and getting into that one.
