It's got a good beat, and it's good to dance to, so why not.

Not good news.
We all know what happens when Mick starts to think he can have more success on his own ! ;^)

Hm, it's strange that tracks I don't quite like often seem to end up on the dance charts.
Congrats to Mick anyway.

Just to put this in perspective, the number one spot on this chart is held by Celine Dion. And Enrique Iglesias is 22 spots ahead of him at #18.

Reaching # 40 will not "go to [Mick's] head", as it is a moderate success, doesn't reflect sales the way Top 200 Lps does. In fact the 12-inch "Too Much Blood" charted with similar numbers on the dance chart in January 1985, but didn't place on the Hot 100 chart, nor did TMB's middling success in clubs lead to "Undercover" returning to the album chart; the album had been released more than a year earlier, and the 2 previous singles were the tile track (charted 11/12/83, reached # 9) and 'She was Hot' (charted 2/04/84).

maybe this is OT, but i heard today that the only reason jimi hendrix got so popular was that he was planted at the top of the charts. people wanted to have the hits of the day so bought his stuff not knowing anything about him. anyone else heard of this?

Hilarious! Nothing to do with the fact he was a great artist?

Appearing at Montery Pop Festival June '67, where he was introduced to US audiences by Rolling Stone Brian Jones certainly didn't hurt...

Yeah i think the record company bought copies (Hendrix), and I dont think people buy Jagger's albums anymore.

There's a saying... "the sale will never take off, before the sale has taken off"... nevertheless - saying that it's the "only reason" Jimi Hendrix got so popular is...rubbish. He came up with a completely new and seductive sound. Are You Experienced is a milestone.

It's important to remember that Reprise had signed few rock n roll acts as of spring '67 - The Kinks' sales had fallen quite drastically, Harpers Bizarre is one group I know of, maybe they'd signed Kenny Rogers & the 1st Edition (many more would be signed in the next 2 years) - and its 'mother' label Warner bros itself had little 'underground' cachet, its biggest acts (Trini Lopez, Don Ho, Tom Lehrer) suggest it would be a few years before it morphed into a hip indie ('69) then finally a major before folding into WEA. So "buying" a # 5 peak and 106 week chart run in "Billboard" ("Are You Experienced?") is simply ludicrous.
