In de eerste aflevering van Rock! aandacht voor het ontstaan van de rockmuziek. In deze eerste periode tussen 1963 en 1970 ontwikkelt een nieuwe generatie Britse jongeren, opgegroeid met rauwe Amerikaanse blues, een nieuw geluid. Bands als The Rolling Stones en The Who leveren de soundtrack voor veranderende tijden en introduceren de ‘attitude’, adrenaline, volume en sex-appeal die een nieuwe muziekstroming zal typeren: rock.
In eerste instantie spelen Britse jongeren nummers van hun Amerikaanse blueshelden, maar al snel raken ze in de ban van de mogelijkheden van de elektrische gitaar. Als The Kinks de hitlijsten bestormen met You really got me, neemt het zelfvertrouwen toe en gaan meer bands hun eigen nummers schrijven. Met jeugdige arrogantie, The Who’s My Generation, en onbeschaamde seksualiteit, The Rolling Stones’ (I can’t get no) Satisfaction, veroveren ze al snel hun muzikale bakermat: Amerika.

Just watched it..........there was nothing new ........ the blues ....the hippies....... Rock and .......the end of the sixties Altamont ........oh and there was Dylan who goes electric

This is (as mentioned in another thread) from the BBC footage "Seven ages of Rock". Check youtube for some clips.
Those (in Holland) who've missed the program and who have digital tv can tune in to Cultura tv (you've probably never noticed it but it's somewhere among those 120 channels) tomorrow (Saturday) at 14:30 for a rerun. [cultura.nps.nl]
Unfortunately this is not among their webcast programs due to legal issues.
