Best Bootleg of the 1975 Tour
Date: December 28, 2007 20:14

I have plenty of Stones boots but have nothing from the 1975 tour so...

What is, in your opinion, the best bootleg of the 1975 tour?

Is that New York show the one with Eric Clapton guesting on "Sympathy..."?

No..thats the first night (22nd). Carlos Santana guests on it on the 27th. It also contains a quite charming version of 'Cherry oh Baby'.

ah I love these threads...

Buffalo 6/15/75 is a soundboard but it's incomplete. I feel it's an essential boot from this tour though. It's a tight performance.

Toronto 6/17/75- very good audience recording and performance.

New York 6/22/75 and 6/27/75- these two are, in my opinion, the best of the New York shows.

Los Angelos 7/9/75 and 7/13/75- the 7/9 show is a smoking performance but doesn't sound as good as the 7/13 show. There are other great recordings from the Los Angelos stand but the 7/10 show doesn't sound that great, and the 7/11 show is a pretty poor performance, and the 7/12 show is taken from two different sources, one very good, the other just fair. Many people will point to the 7/13/75 recording as the best bootleg from the '75 tour. It's hard to disagree.

Seattle 7/18/75- very good audience recording and a smoking performance.

Ft. Collins 7/20/75- very good audience recording and performance although the intros to many songs are cut so while its' a great bootleg, I wouldn't call it the best from the tour for that reason.

Chicago 7/24/75- smoking hot performance and a good, but not great, recording.

Detroit 7/28/75- this is a soundboard and that's the only reason I list this one. It's a pretty bland performance but of interest because its' one of only two "true" soundboards. I say "true" soundboards because there is the Los Angelos 7/11/75 recording sourced from film that some people refer to as a soundboard, but that one is one of the poorer performances.

So there ya go....I recommend Buffalo 6/15, Toronto 6/17, New York 6/27, Los Angelos 7/13, and Seattle 7/18 but if I had to pick just one, I'd go with the Los Angelos 7/13/75 show.

Seattle's great because it's consistent, the sound is very good and they're loose and relaxed and happy.

Milwaukee is just great, still close to the beginning of the tour, and Keith and Ron are on fire.

OK - let me ask this --

What are the top 3 best boots from 75 that are best both because of:

1) the quality of the soud recording; and

2) the quality of the performance by the band

both taken together/

For me just for quality LA 7-13 has it hands down. Not only for 75 tour but its got to be in the stratosphere as far as aud. recordings go. Quality wise has it ever been beat??

I wish there was a boot from GREENSBORO, NC (7/31/75), because that was my very first Stones show.

Anybody know if one has ever surfaced anywhere?

For that matter, is there a source somewhere to download the GREENSBORO show from the Some Girls tour (6/78)? That was Stones show number two for me, wouldn't mind just having a few songs from it on the ol' iPod.

No, there are no Greensboro 75 recordings circulating.

I agree to Tumblin Dice's list, allthough I definately remove MSG 06/22 and Detroit. Maybe add a few other ones instead

I think Los Angeles 7-13 is the best quality. Erik..you must have tons of Stones shows as you know so much about their bootlegs..

I really like the energy of the June 22, 1975 MSG show. Performances by the band IMO are very good all the way around.

Several different labels/versions exist. The latest version of this show was the recently released "Sympathy For The God" from the Tarantura label and it is a new source.

I have read some reviews that "canned" the sound of "Symapthy For The God" but I'm not sure the reviewer listened to the show in it's entirety. The sound varies throughout the recording but is actually very good mid way thru the 1st CD and it stays that way thru the mid point of the 2nd CD. The sound though of the encore with Clapton on Sympathy is probably the worst sound of the entire set.

Haven't heard the "Sympathy For The God" release but I have a couple different versions of this show. The New York stand of this tour was pretty uneven but I remember this as being one of the better performances. The encore of "Sympathy" is pretty bad though.

Los Angeles July 10 & 13, 1975 - fabulous versions of especially IYCRM-GOOMC (July 13, I think), @#$%& (July 10, I think) & Heartbreaker (July 10, I think). And excellent versions of e.g. Gimme Shelter, Wild Horses, You Gotta Move.

Can't get enough of that 3 song set of Angie, Cherry Oh Baby, and Wild Horses from the June 27, 1975 show.

IMO one of their finest performances of these 3 "slow" tunes.

I love the june 27th show too.
I have the 3disc "Hold On Tight" boot. Gret sound with some tape hiss.
Is there a better version of this show in circulation?
