Nice rant except totally untrue. 13 years is too young to be a nostalgic old man. Get your head out of your ass, there is plenty of good music right in front of you, it only takes a bit of effort to actually find it.

im not a nostalgic old man , i have a big bootlegs collection , i talk in the words like "we" because mostly of people here are about 40 years old or around it , and yes , theres a lot of good music , but theyll never impact me as the 1st time I listened to the stones or good people like that

I like to think of it this way. The west has been a melting pot now for a while and the more ingredients in the stew , the richer the taste, if done right. In the sixties, you had blacks and whites, and really the blacks got the ball rolling with rock, just took the whites (read: record companies, promotors) to bring it into our homes via t.v. , records. Blacks didn't have the money or means to promote themselves at that time so the whites stole their music, and called it rock n roll. It was new and tribal, 2 things that resonate with teens and older people too. We can only be so tribal, how many versions of a rockbeat can you come up with and use over and over?
So now we have a new America of every ethnicity on the planet, a money hungry corporate system that has ruined the industry by saturating it with mtv, continuous cable and satellite. PEOPLE ARE BORED BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN DROWNED IN MEDIA HIPHOPCUNTRYPUNKBLUEJAZZRAPETCETC.Maybe there isn't much left to do, you ever think all the best things have been invented? Look at coke, kentucky chicken, these are from the same era, and even they are always trying to add things that come and go to draw people in, just like rock music. But there are bands out there that if you try hard, you will find, may not be stadium fillers but stadium concerts suck anyways anymore, can't standup, can't smoke, can't do @#$%& all .
r u getting any of this??

"AHA , which are those bands???
tell me , theyve played on big places , at least Fleet Center or that kind of stuff?? , we listen about and to them on the radio , tv , or friends at least one time by week??
NO , SIR , WE DONT "

And where did the Stones start? Wembley Stadium? No tiny clubs up and down the country......

Tons of good new bands out there, they're just not getting any radio play. The Hives, Chesterfield Kings, Len Price 3, The Stabilizers, White Stripes, The Strokes, The Thrills. I could go on and on. Screw the arenas, stadiums and theaters. Stick to the clubs, cheaper, better vibe, drinks easy to get.

Rock aint dead, it's just castrated. The only thing that seperated the Stones from the rest of the pack is the the fact that they had balls. They had the balls to give people the kinda music they wanted to hear, instead of the pre-packaged bullshit being forced down their throat. You old timers can't honestly say you wanted the Beatles to hold your hand..we all know you wanted the Midnight Rambler to shove his knife down your throat instead. The Stones had the balls to take themselves to where they are.

The corporations were just as greedy and controlling as they are now- nothing has changed in that department. But the Stones had the balls to bring them down a notch or two, and put what really mattered in the forefront. Of course, they also had the talent and skill to succeed, but big fat balls are just as important.

People today don't want Justin Timberlake to bring sexy back- they want Metallica to kill 'em all etc. etc. etc. Same as in the '60s.

What I see today is the most horrible image one can see- a bunch of pansies running around with no balls. The bands these days have the rock and roll look (a.k.a Keith Richards')- they got the hair, they got the makeup, they got the cigarettes and tight pants, but they don't have what really matters- BALLS. The Stones are the epitome of rock and roll because they showed us just how far 3 chords and a pair of balls will get you.

Our dear friend Keef said it best, "Rock and Roll is from the waist down". So the master himself thinks rock and roll will last forever and I agree. You geezers can remember all those phony bands the Stone's had to compete with, right? It's all the same. Just wait for me and my friend to start our band, we got nice balls and know 3 chords- hopefully one day this excellent community will migrate over to our fan club and complain about our set lists on our 100th world tour and ask this same question when we're about to croak.

(How many times did I say balls?)

Hell, it's been dead for years to me.

I can't remember the last new "rock" album I purchased. If I buy rock CDs, they are old stuff reissued.

You are absolutely correct. Rock as a style of music may continue indefinitely, but I'm afraid that it is an empty shell. A perfect example are the bands who continue to play "punk rock." It looks like punk, it sounds like punk, but it has absolutely none of the cultural relevance. Sad.

Boys need heroes, men don't.

No. Few bands filling arenas is a good thing. But I understand some people still need the validation of the masses. I remember what it was like to be 13.

every era has its pro's and cons. The stones legacy will Live on long after theyre gone. Just enjoy it. You know what you like, thats all that matters. Billy Joel sang in his song "Keeping The Faith" : " The good old days werent always good, and tommorow aint as bad as it seems". Just remember that.

I agree with Keith "Rap Is Crap"!! And I'm sure those looks between Ronnie and Keith during "Anybody Seen My Baby" when Mick and Bernard would "rap" wasnt approval. On another note the boot dvds I've seen of Van Halen's new tour looks like rock aint dead yet!

yeah, thats it. and thats pssibly also the reason why newer Stones albums sound flat in comparison. times have changed, the sound is still there, but it simply does not move you like the old stuff when it came out. and concerts restricted to family-friendly entertainment shows with a mass-friendly greatest hits setlist dont help either. the edge is gone. the danger. the true excitement. it does not mean that its bad, but...

Rock n Roll died in 1958. Its evolved into different things and shouldnt be called rock. What it has evolved into is not allways to my taste, some good some bad. Depends on the listener. Its not my time anymore, so the younger ones will find their own niche and call it what they like, good for them. Cassical music gave way to Jazz gave way to Blues gave way to Rock n Roll gave way to R&B and so on, and however you define it. But the euphoria that exploded by the flappers of the 20s, the Sinatra bobby soxers of the 40s, Beatlemania etc of the 60s and so on will again come round for a new generation with new sounds. Dont know what it will be or what it will be called, but it will happen as the world and its values reshapes itself. My view only and based on past history.
