There are singers out there who deserve their own separate museum, not just to be inducted here, that never get their proper due.

I have my own personal shrines, however, so maybe that will help.

Wow, never thought I would be defending MADONNA, who I've ragged on a million times , but she does deserve it. True, she is not Rock and Roll in it's purest form but she is POP and ROCK or something like that. On top of that RAY OF LIGHT is an excellent album. BEAUTIFUL STRANGER is a GREAT POP song and LIVE TO TELL is a very pretty, emotional song. Granted, besides BURNING UP her first 2 albums are crap and her latest stuff is hit and miss but what can you do, y'all knew it was EVENTUALLY gonna start getting fuzzy (wait till RAP enters the picture). Should have been called "THE MODERN MUSIC HALL OF FAME" On a more important note she doesn't have the greatest boobs in the world but on a cold night I can see myself breaking down and actually playing around with them a bit, better than building a snowman out in the freezing cold.....

It's all Jan Wenner's ego trip.
It really is.
I can't belive the DC5 made it.
How come come The Hollies aren't in there?
That band has been seriously overlooked.
Same with Brian Epstein and Andrew Oldham. Where are they?
The Monkees, too. As I said, it's all Wenner's ego trip.

Madonna and Rock'n Roll?
Well, I think she once gave Mick Jagger some special delight.
That must be the reason.

Up until a couple years ago, the inductees actually seemed to mean something, like somehow did something new and fresh or influenced others later. But now we're getting all the influencees.

I like Tom Petty and John Mellencamp, I've seen each multiple times, but Hall of Fame material? I'd have to disagree with that.

Seems to be coming irrelevent, throwing popsters with little musical, writing, or even singing talent in there.

Who says you have to keep inducting people? The should just close the doors for awhile. REM and Grandmaster Flash pushed me over the edge last year.

Both Van Morrison and also The Sex Pistols didn't even bother to show up for their inductions. The Pistols, however, were polite enough to send a formal refusal in regard to their attendance, or lack of same:

Well, the SEX PISTOLS would have been out of place there since non of them knows how to form an E chord on the guitar.... (that also goes for A, B, C, D, F, G - all the minors, flats, etc, etc and, not forgetting the more exotic fingering)

helter; your ignorance and bad taste is legendary. isn't there a another madonna thread love fest you want to start?

wiki:
Bill Price, the engineer on Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols called Jones one of the tightest guitar players he has ever worked with, implying that his chord and note timing were precise and impeccable.

Jones also played with Thin Lizzy, Joan Jett, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Andy Taylor, the Neurotic Outsiders and had a solo career in the 1980s and early 1990s. His song "Mercy," from the album of the same name, was used in a Miami Vice episode featured on the Miami Vice II soundtrack album. In 1989, he released his second, much heavier-sounding solo album, titled "Fire and Gasoline", which featured Jones on guitar and vocals, Terry Nails on bass, and studio drum wizard Mickey Curry (Bryan Adams, Hall & Oates). He participated in the Sex Pistols reunion concerts and currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

The Sex Pistols, including Steve Jones, will play a gig for the 30th anniversary of Never Mind The Bollocks at the Brixton Academy on November 8, 2007. Due to popular demand, two further gigs were announced on 9 November and 10 November. All three gigs sold out within 5 minutes. This demand led to two further gigs being announced, making five in total. A further gig in Brixton on November 12 will be followed by one at the MEN Arena in Manchester on the November 17.also glasgow S.E.C.C on the 18th of november

and isle of wight this next summer...

What about the progressive rock bands? Other than Pink Floyd in 1996 not one has been inducted.

Yes
The Moody Blues
Genesis
Emerson Lake and Palmer
King Crimson

Just to name a few, can anyone think of any others?

Beely, good attempt but no where as classic as "One Ball Ten Speed Bike Riding Dude" (for Lance Armstrong when he dumped our Sheryl....that goes way back to the good old days)
OK, take Steve Jones out of the mix, we're still dealing with 75% no/low talent (but I agree, better than 100%) You'll see the light one day my friend when you have that Clash box set under your arm, in the mean time put a rockin' Wayne Newton 12 incher on the old turntable and make a fine batch of Eggnog, IT'S THE HOLIDAY'S BEELY !!!!! BTW "Dumb as night/That's plain as day" - now that's a pretty good line.....

Unlike Madonna, who is being inducted in her FIRST year of eligibility, Pink Floyd did not get voted in until their FOURTH year on the ballot! It took Traffic TEN years to get in. Jethro Tull and Deep Purple, both eligible since 1993, have not yet made it.

And when Madonna is inducted on March 10, in her first year on the ballot, consider that:

Joni Mitchell was elected in her SIXTH year of eligibility
Buffalo Springfield was elected in their SIXTH year of eligibility
Jefferson Airplane was elected in their SIXTH year of eligibility
The Velvet Underground was elected in their FOURTH year of eligibility
THE YARDBIRDS were elected in their FOURTH year of eligibility

And STEPPENWOLF, now in their FOURTEENTH year of eligibility, still have not been elected.
