Being a reggae fan, I recently was listening to 'Bush Doctor' by Peter Tosh. It is said that it is the first release on Rolling Stones records. Which releases on this label are the better known ones?
A band named "KRACKER" whose only release "Kracker Brand"(1973) was the first and only band to record on RS other than the stones unless you want to count Edward. Peter Tosh 1978 release was the next attempt but being a solo artist. Found this info in "the Rolling Stones album" by Geoffrey Giuliano pp.114. And to be honest I never saw this LP for sale where I purchased albums in 73!!!!
I once heard that the label was to be called "Pear," supposedly in response to the Beatles' "Apple." I think "Orange" would have been a better choice. Apples & oranges, y'know?
according to Bill W.(of course I've been told there are some editorial problems with his book) Pear was indeed considered but had been dropped as an idea by Dec. 3, 1970 when they had to decide. he claims the other names considered were Panic,Lowdown,Ruby,Snake,Meanwhile,Juke,Heaven Research,Red Lights, and Licks. He said RSR didnt even get the most votes but thats what was decided. And Charlie didnt bother to vote!

Thanks for that. Wow theres a lot of time between 1973(Kracker) and 1978(Tosh) - a whole new era of sound really. Wasnt there any other releases in that period?

'Bush Doctor' came out in '78.
The first release on RSR was 'Brown Sugar' followed a week later by 'Sticky Fingers'.
Other albums released on the label later that year would have been "The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions" and the Brian Jones' "Joujouka" record.
The Kracker album would have been the first record on the label that wasnt a Stones side- project.

I thought the Jagger/Donahue interview was released before BS...no?
"The London Howlin Wolf Sessions", featuring Bill & Charlie along with Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood, was originally released on Rolling Stones Records in 1972 I believe. I have on Vinyl packed away somewhere. I'm told it is a collectors item and may have only been released on The Stones label outside of the US. Great album!

Hehe - I seem to recall reading somewhere that they did not even manage to release it for yuletide the first time around? Something about Keef's habits......If it is true, it is a great story about the great man ;-)
