The Magic of Handsome Girls,
Date: November 28, 2007 18:12

1969 was great, 1973 and 1981 to, but what about 1978. There were some bad shows, but when listening to Handsome Girls i get blown away every single time. Guitar weaving, Ronnie and Keith on great form and how can one not love the sound of the Stones in this era..

What a bootleg, for me the best of the best.. Anyone agrees ?

1978 is highly underrated, IMO.

from what i've heard , the 78 tour is a great one , much better than 1976

what I like about the 78 tour is that it is the essence of the stones. stripped down, loud, rude, wild and you can dance to it.

Are there any You Tube recordings of that album?

Handsome Girls isn't an album, it's an audio bootleg - you don't approve of bootlegs, if i recall.
if you mean promo videos from Some Girls: i'm sure they're on youtube somewhere.

Sssoul,

You bring up good point. I made that stance. I have a question.

Are most of the You Tube videos pirated? If so, and obvious, why aren't the You Tube webmasters arrested? It is so blatant

Re: The Magic of Handsome Girls,

Chris Fountain, i have no idea what percentage of youtube is pirated stuff.
but anyway the webmasters aren't the ones who upload it.
i imagine the legal responsibility is with the individuals who do the uploading
and the site owners just remove stuff when someone complains. i think that seems to happen fairly often?
but it's like asking why ebay allows illegal ticket sales and so on.

SSsoul,

Would an agency such as the FBI, or Interpol have the authority to shut down that website?

I recall recently that the U.S. gov't closed all internet sportsbook gambling. To me that is less of a crime.

So what is and what isn't a crime regarding the internet? These inconsistentcies don't add up .. In the words of bob dylan "It makes you feel ashamed to live in a land where justice is a game"

This again shows the difference between records/ boots, etc. and the real shows!

I've seen all Stones tours in the 70's (and many gigs) and in the flesh most of the 76 gigs had been really good! (Although I had been shocked by the first boots from 75 with Wood).

On the other hand,- there was no Eurotour in 78 but everything you got to hear from that tour was disapointing and seemed quite lousy.
That was until H. Girls came out. One of their best boots and it gave a new light to that tour.

But, however - you can't judge a tour from a single boot.

Best boot ever IMO. Being a Ronnie fan anyway he really shines. The mix is close to perfect, guitars evenly balanced each out of their own side. Charlie and Bill perfect too. It's lose and tight all at the same time.

Must be cranked loud.

Never loved Miss You, but love this version, Ronnie did not take a backseat to Mick or Keith.

It's a historical one.
Base line on All Down The Line is a superweapon.
We should talk about this album song by song.

By the way, have you ever seen Mick's interview on NBC with somebody like Scott Goldfield in 1978?
He was in woozy mood, arrogant attitude and kept using the word "stinks" during the interview.
That's what Mick Jagger is all about.

Those were the days when a tour was meant to promote an album. I really appreciate this bootleg (I have the gorgious girls Redux version) because it allows me to enjoy the live interpretation of the new songs like When the whip comes down, Beast of Burden, Miss you, Just my imagination, Shattered, Respectable, Far away eyes, all back to back in a row (and Lies).

Now back to the question: is it wrong to enjoy this document? It seems to me the boys will be happy to know that what they did 30 years ago is still rocking us.

has anyone said it's wrong? i just pointed out its status to Chris Fountain,
who seemed to think it was an official release with promo videos to find on youtube.

sssoul, I am concerned that those in power (Bush and his crime family) will close down YT.

These outlets provide musicians exposure to the populous. My thoughts are that concert ticket prices are where bands are retributed for their efforts. When I hear folks complaining of ticket prices it makes me wonder. However, I despise Ticket World, Masters..etc.. It's a very complex issue.

Most of the wellknown vinyl bootlegs come from the not-too-good 1978 concerts;
there were however other terrific 1978 shows, than the 5 concerts used for Handsome Girls.

Yes, the basslines ! Handsome Girls is one of them bootlegs were one can pay attention to any of the 5 in the Rolling Stones...or the piano; and be amazed - no ingredient fail to deliver...to say the least

I am not a native speaker of the English language, so maybe there is a difference between "not approving" bootlegs and "thinking it's wrong" that I did not catch?

since you're addressing Chris Fountain i'll bow out - that was his stance, not mine.
technically he didn't bring it up in this thread, but if you want him to ... be my guest.

excuse my typo - it's fixed now.
and technically you didn't bring it up in this thread - i did, but only because
you seemed to think Handsome Girls is an official album with promo videos to go with it.
the fact that i remember your extreme stance on bootlegs doesn't mean i share it;
i have my own views about bootlegs, and i enjoy Handsome Girls a lot.
(your concerns about youtube are all yours too.)

Maybe Handsome Girls is the greatest album of all-time... If so, then why didn't Mick , Keith or Charlie say " this a a great album!!! Let's release it" ??? Oh...that's right. You know more than Keith? They seem to be doing something right!

Still Life is untouchable and simply magic. You know what sssoul, I'm tired of your sarcasm, and I will walk the streets than live with the thought of your stinking piracy. I know that people attack me alot in this forum... YOU KNOW WHAT ...I DON"T CARE!!!! THou shall not steal? Does it ring a bell?

smile: it's marcovandereijk who wanted to discuss your views on bootlegging, not me.
i simply felt you might want to know it's a bootleg, so you can go enjoy your streetwalk
instead of asking people to find youtube clips from it for you. have fun!
