I agree that England's forwards in Germany '06 were weird choices, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised by that tall guy. What's his name? Wright-Phillips or something?

LOL..Crouch is white and 6'7. Wright-Phillips is black and about 5'3.

They're dead ringers winking smiley

Dead ringers? What's that. I only heard that term once before and that was the horrible Meat Loaf/Cher duet Dead Ringer For Love.

Wright-Phillips is good no? Once on Danish TV he was mentioned as the next Ashley Cole or something (Cole's very good IMO - He even got the honour of being on my football team Dartford F.C. in the PS2 game Pro Evolution Soccer 6. This team also has Pele, Maradona, Beckenbauer, Lineker and Schmeicel mind you). :-D

It means they're identical (sarcasm on my part)

he's a good player, yes, although as he's a right sided attacking midfielder and Cole is a left back, I cant see the connection other than they both play for Chelsea.

Good luck England tonight. Come on boys, shake a leg.

Here´s my theory why England struggles. Long a go the team was made up by mainly Arsenal players. But the statistics show that from the UK Premier league consists of mainly foreign players. Over half are not English. So I mean that if international players play together on home turf, just some of them, it would bring on a better team due to knowing eachother. If Chelsea or Man Utd were allowed in, they would probably win it all. I remember when the only famous foreign players in UK was Ossie Ardilles and Vialla for Tottenham. Now we are awash with foreigners. It´s not a complaint but an observation. Also we play too much football. FA Cup, League Cup, The League, Testimonials, Europe Championship. And whatever else. By the time they get to play for England, the´re knackered.

the same applies for the internationals of all other countries who play in the Premiership, though - however the lack of English players getting regular first team football is a huge factor which I think most people would agree on.

McLaren definitely blew it tonight I'm afraid.

Great effort by Northern Ireland to finish 3rd behind Sweden and Spain. We were never in the game tonight but to do so well in that group when we were a 6th seed is an incredible effort.

Yup, England were bollocks. I thought they'd lose tonight. The most important match of their recent careers and they played like they'd just gotten out of bed - no spirit, no passion, no drive, no pride.

The crowd's reaction said it all - stunned silence and a smattering of boos.

England got what they deserved.

Players take no pride in the shirt
and a manager who picks the wrong players and plays them out of position.

A shambles and a disgrace.

Re: Bye England

They played with no thought or skill.
Pass the ball to someone who's wearing the same colour shirt as you, rather than just kicking the ball up the pitch and hoping that Crouch wiil get his head on the ball. Every national team in the world knows this apart from England.

The only thing the English game has got is money, the best players in the English Premiership are foreign.
They need to teach the kids how to play basic football...
First, learn to control the ball
Second, learn to pass the ball
Third , learn to run and dribble with the ball
Finally learn to shoot accurately.

I´m shocked...a Euro without England is like
the Stones without Wyman.

Nice result England!!! It's taken the bitterness of losing to Italy away hehe.

Hmmm, it's a good thing, it means we can enjoy the tournament without having to endure endless headlines and debate about what Beckham had for breakfast etc etc.

Sorry for the English, but they just didn't deserve to compete in the Euro 2008 in Switzerland/Austria. Shit happens, and there goes another English coach...

Whilst I am gutted, England only got what they deserved! Firstly relying on other results and basically putting too much pressure on themselves by having poor results earlier on in the qualifiers.

I think we need to host these competitions so that we can guarantee entry!!

Now let's hope the Holland team wil disappear ASAP from the EC 2008. What a load of crap they performed in (almost) all qualifying games....
Always liked Van basten as a player, as a coach it is a big mess, IMHO...

England are simply not good enough. If we had got through last night it would have been akin to papering over the cracks.

As long as the suits at the FA stay away from the manager of my beloved Aston Villa then I'll be happy.

With a smile on your face and a tear right in your eye

In the thread which lists "notable deaths", some one inserted "Steve McLaren's managerial career" under 21st November 2007...LOL

Go Sweden Go! We have qualified to the fifth big championship in a row. Not bad for a small country.

I suspect he'll be back managing a club - Graham Taylor returned, as did Hoddle and Keegan.

Wonder who they'll get to replace McClown. Mourinho or Scolari?

Re: Bye England

a football manager with an umbrella - says it all really.

stick it up your arse McClown, eff-off and take Barwick and Lumpard with you.

Re: Bye England

I doubt that either Mourinho or Scolari will coach the English team, Scolari wants to became the first coach ever to be both World and European Champion, and Mourinho said on a recent interview that he is too young to be a coach from a national side, and specially for him coaching a team who´s the next big thing happens in one year ( World Champion Qualification), I dont see Mourinho waiting that long to be on a big stage again , his ego wouldnt allowed it... but once again money talks, and in this case it can scream

It's because my PS2 game lists both as side backs. That's not true?
