In shows circa 2000 Transcendental Blues tour would close every final encore with btmmr. very cool; very moving, very appropriate. that live version of df IS amazing, quite agree, and that version of The Dukes was total killer. such a great songwriter and he often covers others in his concerts (with the Dukes anyway) ...
interestingly (to mois anyway) i've heard him do 'no reply' and 'revolution' by the beats as well (with The Dukes)...the latter of which almost tore my head off...it was two and a half years ago and i still have goosebumps.
i love it when he intros df and tells that he got the song off of a hillbilly band from england, or some such...then he rips right into it.
imo very easily one of the most amazingly consistent best songwriters we have on this planet.
have also heard him do the chamber bros. "time has come today" in concert many times, complete with two drummers as is the original. Sheryl Crow duets with him on this one on the recording and stopped in hob sunset to perform it with him. has a tom waits cover (theme song from THe Wire TV show) on the new album.
plus his book of short stories 'doghouse roses' was credible and worthwhile.
I'm not a lit crit, but certain of the stories seemed like they needed a little more body and flow; on the other hand, several stories were fascinating and i read them hungrily, including the first one from whence the title cometh 'doghouse roses' ... it's about as harrowing and viciously visceral a drug tale (and a true one) as you can imagine. thank goodness we got him back.
he has an official website but i like the "unofficial" one for easy access to lyrics per album, lottsa cool stuff...
