Last night I enjoyed the latest 3DVD AC/DC release ' Plug me in' with lots of gems from the vaults, incl. Leipzig 2003/rock me baby. 7 Hrs. for the real fan....
Was thinking again how weird it is from the Stones not to open their vaults.

What would be your 5 wishes in case the would finally open them.....
Mine:

1. a 78 gig on DVD
2. all the Paris '77/'79 outtakes/rehearsals
3. a '75 LA gig on DVD
4. Black and Blue outtakes/rehearsals
5. a '72/'73 gig on DVD

Mick, are you reading......?

The vaults typically open up after the artist/group dies...keep the vaults closed!
More Stones shows! Viva Los Rolling Estones!

A killer gig from each line up of the band would be a great start!

a massive Archives project a la Neil Young would be most welcome

Five wishes?

1) a complete unedited and undubbed show on CD from every tour as far back as possible and a comprehensive release of their BBC sessions.

2) Likewise in DVD format (apart from the BBC stuff, naturally), plus an up to date career documentary

3) A multi-disc career-spanning set of unreleased material, whether its outtakes and/or alternate versions

4) Released through rs.com at a decent price

5) Giving me input into the track selections.

imo the big hole in their released catalog would be no live release (other than l&g and other boots) that memorialize '72/'73 properly.
i'm very grateful to have a good copy of Brussels...boy, that one is definetly m.i.a. AND some of the most amazing, exciting music ever.

Here’s what they should release all together in a box:

@#$%& Blues film
1972 concert
1976 concert – Knebworth
1978 concert
1981 concert
1989 concert – Atlantic City
1995 concert – Buenos Aires
2002 concert
Plus interview and rehearsal footage available from all those periods.

Now that would be a fuking box for ya!

While everyone wants Brussels 73 released, if they were to do so, most people would probably complain because they have it already!

Id go for the tape of the Crawdaddy Club from 1963. We have early boots/concerts from many of the main artists of the time: a tape of the Who from 1964 (pre-i cant explain); various beatles, including the infamous star club, very early dylan concerts, but no early stones concerts.

No Bruxelles 73 for sure, we have that in great quality already.
Yeah, the complete Macombo '77 gigs would be great !

1).The Crawdaddy Tapes from 1963
2). Expanded versions of their entire Decca back catalogue, which would include the double album version of "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out" as originally intended as well as out takes and discarded material.
3).BBC sessions (which were nearly released in the nineties) although whether there would be much of an upgrade soundwise is debatable as their Beatles sessions made use of fans tapes and bootlegs. But the release would reach a wider audience.
4).Release of Peter Whitehead's "Charlie is my Darling" from their Irish tour of 1965 (both edits) with Whitehead's promos for "Have you Seen Your Mother Baby", "Lady Jane" and "We Love You" as added extras.
5). Release of their Ed Sullivan appearances - long overdue...
6).DVD of all their other TV appearances from 1964 (assuming all tapes from 1963 were wiped) to 1969, including NME Pollwinners (does the 1968 appearance still exist?), and rarities such as their UK and US Frost Show appearances, as well as all extant promos from this period.
7). Double CD of Altamont 69 from the Bob and Betty mastertapes, with accompaying booklet and DVD of Maysles footage especially edited for the release.
8). Release of The Marquee '71" gig both nights were filmed - so let's have them both please.
9).Release of "@#$%& Blues" in optimum quality.
10).DVD of the show from Brussels 1973, which was apparently filmed but never shown.

This would be a promising start but I don't think anything like this is going to happen anytime soon.

Well yeah, unfortunately...unless they veer drastically from their formula of late...

Please don't let the Stones completely transform into a catalogue artist just yet, because promotion for archive releases effectively eats up time spans that artists could use for releasing new recordings.

The past was nice. We celebrated it then. So let's now celebrate the present!

>> the double album version of Get Yer Ya Ya's Out as originally intended <<

apologies for the digression but since this is the second time recently that someone's said this about GYYYO,
i've gotten curious. can someone provide a source, please and thank you, for the idea
that GYYYO was originally intended to be a double album? the way i recall it,
it was the never-released 1972 concert album that was conceived of as a double album
including performances by the warm-up acts.

Billwebster, instead of releasing all from Steel Wheels till ABB (although this one I rate positively) , I would have prefered them to dig a lot and dig deep instead .......

I'm without any sources, as always, with Sssoul, but I've read several places that GYYYO was supposed to contain one album of the warm-up acts; Ike and Tina Turner, and one album of Rolling Stones performance. Decca wasn't too keen on including these "black artists"...according to Jagger. That's why it felt like a relief, knowing they could be in charge of their next live album, themselves, but Allen Klein managed to stop that project as well.

Yea, that's true, Bill wrote about it as well.
Suddenly remembered that Jagger wanted BB King as a warm-up act as well, and put him on one side and Ike & Tina on the other.
So, a "new GYYYO" shouldn't contain any more Stones numbers, but an addition disc of BB King and the Turners.... BB King had some concerts in 69, but don't think he was there for the US 69 RS Tour, was he ?

ooh, ooh...the Complete Miss You dvd Encyclopedia set containing all consecutive playings of this song from its stage debut in '78 thru the first gig without it on the '99 NS tour.

the Backstage NYC dvd ('69, '72 and '75) with just home movie footage of all the minions of famous people and backstage jamming and assorted misdeeds that happened around their MSG performances. features hendrix, warhol, etc.

the Stu the Man dvd; pranks, dry witticisms, interviews, solo piano and gig footage of the piano man from the early days thru the Stu memorial gig in '86

the Masterworks Studio dvd set; any surviving footage from the recording and mixing sessions of the Big Five- beggars, let it bleed, sticky fingers, exile, and some girls. including jams, songwriting sessions, production notes, unreleased tunes, band meetings and photoshoots for covers.

Rarities Tour rehearsals dvd set. pre-tour rehearsal footage from the Ronnie era 1975-2007 tours made up exclusively of complete songs performed at rehearsal that never made it to the stage plus impromptu renditions of old blues covers that inevitably were broken out for fun during rehearsals.

hmm; that's five. ok, i take back the 500 versions of Miss You dvd and replace it with one live show from 1973.

Yeah he was. I know he played several dates with them, including the Forum shows that got started so late. Check Stanley Booth's book.

Thanks, but I meant to have the word "entire" in "the entire US 69 RS Tour". I just can't remember reading about BB King warming up for the GYYYO concerts; meaning at MSG and Baltimore.
