I saw last night on Spanish Tv a band from Sahara called TINARIWEN, who mixed sharp guitars and Africans sounds and they really sounded great,african blues, at the begining they said the Stone and specially Richard was thinking in incluide them in their last tour as warm up, any idea if they played in Dublin? They are seven former soldiers from Tuaregs

I think they played in Dublin - unfortunately, we arrived at Slane too late.

I didn't go to Dublin unfortunately, but they were on the bill for that gig. I think they are really really good; actually Robert Plant is the one who pushed them forward... I've seen them live in Milan, in a gig that featured Robert Plant as well (even though he didn't sing a lot due to sore throat).

Maybe because...

I saw them some time ago at a concert in memory of the great ali farka toure, robert plant was there too, and they were great.

Note the bass player (you can see him in the first pic of carlitos): he is left handed and plays an ordinary bass up-side-down, I mean, not restrung like hedndrix did, but as it is, with the bass strings on the bottom and the high on top. Wild fingerings for his lines ...

They're from Mali, and some of them are from the Touareg nomad tribes. Great music! Seen them twice.

I've seen them thrice and met them twice. They are lovely people and play great music.

Second warm-up in Slane.
Rain was falling down, everything was wet and muddy.
And the Tinariwen cheer: Welcome to the desert !
Great moment ! From a totally different planet...

All I can hear when I listen to this band are riffs the Keef ought to be listening to! If he is that's even better!

Good news but why not have them open for the Stones in Paris since they blossomed there. So we can skip the terminnaly shitty opening acts of the last 27 years (Gun 1990 Bon Jovi (gulp) 1995 Stereophonics 2003 Razorlight 2007... nuff said).
