dande2007, here's a fun link; this gent from australia has very clear and well shot easy git vid taking you
from the open G tuning, string by string...
directly into keith's riffs and style with it...really hope you'll dig this.
along about 4:30 he shows you the classic moves, real slow and good closeup on the fretboard and fingering.
smu about six or so minutes in...what justin calls 'the classic pattern' and so it is. and then it's open g stones riffs for a few minutes and it makes it kinda fun and purty clear i hope you'll think.

i think his site also lets u download free pdf files of the lesson if you want to see it notated.

Also countrypickers use it a lot when the songs are in the key of D.

The guitar is tuned so that either an E or a G - chord is played without having to use you fingers to make the chord. (all strings loose.) Ronnie plays a lot of open E when playing slide. Keith uses open G on most of the classic Keith- riffs.
