>> it was fun <<

i love the looks on everyone's faces :E

that umm unusual start is the moment that Nick Kent described - in glorious detail -
as Keith flinging off his guitar, leaping onto the drum riser, directing the rhythm with his body,
then jumping off the riser and punching Woody in the face so hard he almost fell off stage.
same school of "journalism" as the twat who wrote about the Scream awards ceremony ...

The entire Wembley show has a terribly robotic drumming Watts. I don't know what he was on, but it was one of the worst nights for Charlie. With She's SC and JJF, and with many other numbers, Charlie enters the song with a break that ends somewhere in the middle, completely off beat. It takes a minute for the entire band to adjust to Charlie. It's a bit like Gimme SHelter from Perth, 1973. If Keith would have slapped anybody that night in Wembley, Charlie was the one who deserved it most.

I know what you mean, it doesn't suit Charlie. I have no idea when the heroin problems of Charlie started, but the 1982 tour had some very, very bad Charlie shows, especially compared to the terrific 1981 tour (well, at least the second half of that tour). But on the '82 tour, Charlie sometimes really played like a robot, frantically beating the hi-hat with stiff arms. The entire '82 tour was a bit of a coked-up event, and also Charlie suffered from it on several shows.

So what you're saying is that Keith should have punched Charlie instead of 'thumping' poor old Woody? smiling smiley

it seems charlie may be on something from looking at this clip because he's just smiling, doen't seem concearned at all that the song is in danger of coming to a crashing halt!

No, I am saying that poor old Mick should start working on a solo album as his old band is one coked up, heroin addicted bunch of juvenile marrying millionairs!

Anyhow, they were great despite those misses, very raw, pure rock n roll. So many good boots from 81 but also 82.

I remember when I saw them in Sweden in 1982 that something was strange with Charlie. The first 4-5 songs they had to turn down the bass drum in the mix, because it was so terrible out of sync. Obviously not one of his best tours.

This was my 1st Stones show. I remember SSC and yes, it was Charlie's mistake, but I thought the rest of the show was great.

The sound was better at Leeds a month later though.

I don't remember over-loud drums only the magnificent bone -rattling guitar of the then, undisputed HUMAN RIFF supported by the awesome Bill Wyman's deep deep bass. You had to be there.......... to "feel it"

LoFL! whenever you're ready, Gazza ... :E
meanwhile: you bet Charlie - bless his face! - is entitled to screw up - just like a Rolling Stone :E
i only meant this umm special start to SSC seems to be nearly universally regarded as Keith's mistake,
simply because the notion that Charlie could screw up is so utterly alien to so many people.

i love the Rolling Stones - *exactly* the Rolling Stones :E
