Setlists on Stage?

I was wondering about the different ways the band reads setlists while on stage. Is the plexiglass setlist primarily for the Stones themselves? The printed setlists given out by the crew, etc are those mostly for the horns and backup singers? Doesn't Mick have a large printed version on the ground? Thanks!

The strangest ones I ever saw were on INXS Tours. They had an LED Sign with a single line readout. It faced the band and the next song would appear.

i'm not sure, but i think i imagine it's on Mick's teleprompters, not a piece of paper.
in 81/82 and earlier eras, maybe there was a set list taped to the floor among his other prompts,
but even then i believe the drum riser was the traditional place for the paper version of the set list.

apparently the transcriptions of the things Mick says in the local languages are on paper taped to the stage,
rather than on screens - i found that interesting. my theory is that he writes them out them himself
as a learning strategy.

but at Shepherds Bush there was all kinds of stuff taped to the stage - looks like lyrics?
did the teleprompter break down or not fit or ... ?

Every time when Mick talked in longer sentences to the audience he moved to the front of the stage, took a look on the floor as if he was reading something. Now that I see those pictures with all that sheets on the floor it makes sense. I guess that the local promoter provides Mick with some local information (about local cultural or political topics) before the show so that he is able to entertain the audience in between the songs with more or less witty remarks.

That wouldnt be a guess; since it seems to be the usual routine :O)

I think that's it... If I blow up the pic and squint, I think I can juuuust make out "Are you feelin' alright?" And "It's good to be here..." with a line through it! :-D

The large paper sheets in front of Mick usually read the city and country they`re in (I`m not kidding), and often some sentences in the local language. No Security: het is goed om in Holland te zijn. Or, as Mick prefers, hat is ghoot omm in Holaand te zein. Could also read some shit about the local baseball league or something, so he can ``communicate``. I think it`s all crap, usually, it`s way too forced.

Anyway, that wasn`t the subject. I think they read it off the plexiglass.

Of course, The Plexiglass is the ultimate authority, we all know that. The definitive source of the setlist.

right: Mick's said that the local-language remarks are on paper taped to the stage,
and you can see him consulting them at shows, if you watch ... but what is all that
on the Shepherds Bush stage?? the local dialect isn't *that* tricky for a pro of Mick's calibre :E

Mick had the first word of every Rough Justice line taped up on large cardboard papers on the B-stage for a year or so on the ABB tour. It was like he never got to remember it. But he does remember most of the old ones, well at least he does not use any large sheets on the B-stage. Some times he is doing improvisations on the lyrics. That's the nice way of saying it.

As I see it, they hardly ever use all this info (lyrics and set lists) but it makes them feel confortable to have it there available.

Quite normal, almost all live acts do so.

Plus the setlist. Some people in first row went nuts, when they learned that Shattered was the first song. Shidoobee... smiling smiley

One of the stage hands at the Londons O2 show gave my friend a copy of the set list for the show - it was an 8x11 piece of paper that showed the key the song is played in - Wheather or not Brass is in the song - Blondi singing or playing guitar on stage or off stage and wheather lisa and Bernard were on stage
