Haha- thats a hoot. No news here- Taylor has been routinely phoning it in for years. Obviously the star struck boyfan types in this group would fawn over him if he farted on their lunch. IMHO, if youre charging for admission, show up in shape to play and with a respectful attitude towards the audience, or even a little enthusiasm for gods sake, no matter who you were in 1973. The last solo show he did in these parts was dreadful.
I was hoping he might pull it all together and make the most of the higher profile with this Hendrix thing. Instead- a shambles. Ill wager he'll be playing in Finland for beer money again soon. A brilliant talent now dissipated and without focus.

Agreed that Taylor has phoned in shows for MANY years, as when I saw him with Bobby Keys and Ivan Neville in 1992 in something called Tumblin Dice in Atlanta at the Masquerade, Taylor took a relative back seat and was nothing incredible. Keys was really leading the show, and Neville, though obviously ENERGETIC, was something to really see. Cannot recall if Ian MacLagan was on keyboards.

Anyone else see "Tumblin Dice"?

From another thread- Bill Wymans perspective- "Bill's responses were thoughful, often amusing and without any hint of malice towards anyone.

He thought Mick Taylor was technically the best musician of all the Stones but the drugs ruined all his talent. He spoke about how he had tried to help him but he just can't get it together anymore. A great talent sacrificed for drugs."

Ahem...like I said...

A career sacrificed maybe but not talent. He can still play like ringing a bell.

Talk about waste.
Anyone with ears that was at the Beacon last Monday (Slight Return show) should not waste their time or space on this forum saying ignorant things about Taylor's career or talent.

Out of the 20 odd musicians that were on stage doing their best Hendrix impersonation, the solo Taylor played on All Along The Watchtower was the only thing that really moved me. That's what made the night as far as I'm concerned. It was nice to see him work together so well with Robbie Krieger, I thought Krieger and Taylor both have a sense of class that was mostly absent in the other "guitar wankrs".
Buddy Guy was good but I did not notice him paying tribute to Hendrix in any fashion.

As for Mick Taylor, I do not know anyone else that can play like that and I don't expect to see some young guitarist coming out of the woodworks with a fraction of Taylor's talent.

Welcome back to Finland to play some hot blues like you always do here, Taylor! Let those 'if it it doesn't happen in the US, it won't count at all' sissies wank by themselves! First round on me!
