£950 for a ticket ? Holy Moly, wait till Cohl reads that. Hope it doesn't give him ideas for future Stones shows !!

Yes, this is the future. Smaller and smaller audiences paying larger and larger sums in order to get closer and closer to the older and older heroes of their more and more distant youth.

The Eagles played at a private party within the last few years at a guy's farm in Indiana, a property formerly owned by Oprah. This year he had Brooks and Dunn.

A friend of mine gets invited and it's mostly a who's of Chicagoans who want to be considered the "in" money and power crowd. Yawn...I'd rather see a play at a small theatre in Angelwinking smiley

Not that long since Certain Persons on this board were proposing something similar - except that it was going to be organised by IORR for IORR members - provided of course they could afford to pay $500 (or was it £500?) per ticket.

The trouble is, if the Stones are ever going to play small venues again, how else are you going to organise the tickets when supply is tiny and demand huge?

One could also reverse the "question" - if they are going to ask £950 a ticket - it sure WILL be a very small and exclusive party ;-)

You can all come over to my house and we'll play "records." Free admission.

lol, true!
I imagine the majority of attendees of the private gigs don't pay a dime, a shilling a won or a pence...the corporations they work for pay and then write it off as a business expense.
Aerosmith recently did one show and one show only in Honolulu and it was a private baseball stadium gig for Toyota. Invited Toyota dealers and 7 guests each got in for free while thuosands of real fans were left out in the warm. I couldn't say left out in the cold because it's Hawaii.
A-Smith was contractually obligated not to do any other shows in Honolulu and they cancelled their Maui gig due to their own scheduling conflicts.

At least the Stones sandwich their private gigs in between public gigs near the local area they are doing the private gig so it's not as frustrating.

I saw the Eagles 2 years ago in a small arena of 7,500 and had a good seat so I was close enough to make it seem like a private show. They were good and enjoyable but I don't need to see them again.

See how you feel about that if it becomes more the norm than the exception and you a) dont get in or b) cant afford a ticket

Also, Elton John has been doing corporate gigs for years...

Exactly the sort of artist the Stones are just dying to be compared to, no doubt.

stones have done private corporate gigs as have most in demand bands. hawaii is a common denominator. free trip to hawaii, a few million beans, and a short set on the beach. who can blame em?

I'm sure this would be even more fun than attending the regular Stones concert. Only trouble is I guess getting to you (and back) will cost us £950 as well. Thanks for the invitation, anyway.

Last I heard a poster whose name I forget at the moment said that the idea had been forwarded to Michael Cohl's office. What happens next is anybody's guess. I would imagine it would have to be during a tour..... Anyting is possible.

When you pay for a second row seat in a 20,000 seat arena and spend 350+ on the ticket it feels like a private gig. I never look behind me at the crowd. So who cares how many people are behind you. This private gig dream in a small place is for those who have never been closer than the back row.

but there's always a difference between setlists - another reason to love them.

it can actually be uncomfortable up front at a club show. people are pushing and trying to worm their way to the front. eveyone is drenched with sweat.
being in the front row is a health necessity at the club show. having the rail and the air in front makes all the different. however, people have passed out next to me and i almost had to be pulled over by security at the stockholm cirkus.

not that i'm complaining. it's all part of the dues you pay to see such a show. it's worth getting in line at 7am.

Well I was in the front row for the No Security tour in Oakland. About a 17,000 seat arena. It did'nt feel like a club show but it was great being that close. If anything it was too close. Mick just kind of looked over our heads. But as far as a small venue gig. I think a theatre that holds about 2-3,00 would be the best kind of venue.

Any fan of the Eagles should just boycot the new release. It smacks of this band not caring for their fans.I don't think the Stones would do this.

As long as he gets his fee (I think it's around $800,000) Elton will play in your backyard. Really.

The Stones perform around 150 gigs per tour. Then they usually do one corporate gig per tour. For some reason that hurts. There is a long way from less than 1% corportate gigs to being a Las Vegas act.

You don't have to play Vegas to be a Vegas act.

Well now I don't feel so bad about what I paid for an Eagles ticket for the upcoming LA shows.

Exactly. The term is a reference to an 'artistic' or business decision, not a geographical location.

True but at least when the Stones did the private Pepsi gig in Hawaii they also did two stadium shows locally for everyone else.

Unlike Aerosmith...or should I say Aerosmith's management...I don't blame the musicians as they are just told where they'll be playing next and they do it, and sometimes they don't.

Huh?

You seriously believe that bands of the Stones or Aerosmith's magnitude are 'told' where theyre playing and they just go along with it?

The band hire the management and promoters. Not the other way round.

Yeah, true... For example, The Who came off as a Vegas act during their 1989 tour... They had a generic sound and were missing the soulful sound they once had... I saw them in 2004 and 2006 and they were anything but a Vegas act... stripped down sound, no giant hor section, background dancers and singers... as close to the original core Who sound as they can get seeing 2 guys died.

For the most part yes, but I'm certain they have input too, sure.
I'd like to give A-Smith the benefit of the doubt that they did indeed want to do a public show in Honolulu but it was their management's decision that screwed the pooch on that one, not the Aerosmith band members, that's all.
