Mick's best of debuted at #8 in Germany this week.
If we take a look, Germany is by far the country with the most success for the Stones in the last 15 years or so:

Wandering Spirit (#3)
Voodoo Lounge (#1 by 6 weeks)
Stripped (#3)
Bridges To Babylon (#1 by 4 weeks, Top 100 during a whole year)
No Security (#5)
Goddess In The Doorway (#2)
Forty Licks (#2)
Live Licks (#9)
A Bigger Bang (#1 by 2 weeks)
The Biggest Bang (#1 by 1 week, more than 100k sold so far)
Best Of Mick Jagger (#8)

That's great. I am glad to see that especially as I am also a member of StonesTreff, the German Stones fan club.

I wonder, then, why the band seems to have such trouble selling tickets in Germany, seems like even more than the other countries in Europe. At least on the ABB tour. Correct me if I am wrong.

Do we really need another Mick Jagger thread about his "Best of"?? I mean, there is already about five or more in existence - tag your posts on one of those(unlike me *lol*)

Maybe, we are all just Jagger-fans here in Germany.
That's why the Stones only sold 90.000 tickets this year.

Just joking...

because they were too bloody expensive compared to almost everywhere else in Europe - and there was even a significant price hike between the 2006 shows and the ones in 2007.

I guess because they were all seated, for this year anyway. But you know, even last year (2006), sales in Germany were slower than elsewhere, I believe. I can recall Berlin, which did NOT have seats on the field, having huge open areas, first time I had ever seen that at a Stones show. Were they more expensive than other countries last year?

But Barcelona this year was the worst I have EVER seen -- like the whole upper deck (tier) was about empty, and they also did have an open field including FOS.

Yes - and Germany also was hosting the World Cup, which ALWAYS has an adverse affect on ticket sales (Italy 1990 and France 1998 being examples of Stones tours where ticket sales in the host country were piss-poor)

I think the Spaniards were somewhat wary of buying Stones tickets after last year's cock ups. What they may have lacked in numbers though, they made up for in enthusiasm. Certainly in Madrid at any rate.

In my case, I thought they were just too expensive, that's why we boycotted the ticket agencies in both Berlin and Dübendorf 2006. And I would have boycotted Lausanne too if there hadn't been Migros to pay the price. Tickets at a price of more than 40 Euros are nothing but a way to @#$%& the fans. For stadiums anyway (and yes I sometimes DO pay more than 40 Euros for tickets but I often HATE it to be such an ass).

or maybe cuz of the Catalan factor, maybe they are less enthusiastic than those of Spanish blood (just kidding?).

Yes, we were up front at Barcelona and while it wasnt exactly the mosh pit, it was pretty well jammed with some "movement" of people toward the stage and pushing.

But I really liked the football songs and the melodies were rather straightforward so that even an ignorant imperialist Bush-American unfamiliar with the songs like myself was able to join in. I just can't remember how they go now, but I guesss they must be on the boot, unlesss edited out.

Maybe in an ideal world, yes. But I think 40 is not a bad price for any big band, esp the Stones

Germany is the largest "Stones country" in Europe. Their biggest market. The best place for pilsner beers. In every city. The best place for a biergarten or a bierstube or snaps with the beer. Also lots of great and friendly people, fans and friends. And trains on time. Many reasons for loving Germany.

I cannot agree with you more, well, yes I can, I can agree with you even more still.

I personally have many reasons for loving Germany -- Bavaria, the Romantische Road, Berlin, the town my mother's family came from - Gieboldehausen, and the town where my 3rd cousins (and my good friend's mother) now live - Karlsruhe,

but most of all the people -- very giving, helpful without end, fun to be with, fun to drink beer with, I could go on, but I will say a huge DANKE to all my German Stones friends such as open-g and (my fellow) members of Stonestreff, the fan club.

They have yet to come to the reality of the Plexiglass, but that will come in time.
