whilst bruce's political leanings are clear, i have never felt lectured on them, up until his support of Kerry, it always seemed non party to me. good gawd theres nothing wrong about singing about tits and ass but should we chuck out anyone who expresses a political or social view ???
i recall when brucee got criticised for just singing about cars.
the only reason this thread is continuing in my view is the deabet between those who defend Springsteen for what he does or doesn't stand for against those who insist on comparing him to the stones. face this fact the stones are not the barometer or bench mark.
as for Bruce's new album being only relevant to those who bought it !!!!!!!!! go away there's a shock, who the feck do you think its relevant to ???

Not at all. Let him recite paranoid lefty talking points to his heart's content. Just don't expect those who don't want to hear it to pay to do so.

It wasn't me who said that.

"Not at all. Let him recite paranoid lefty talking points to his heart's content. Just don't expect those who don't want to hear it to pay to do so. "

your objection is clear now, its not that he has a political view and express's it, its the the view itself"

I can relate to that, i wouldnt pay to be lectured by some right wing, war mongering imperialist either.

"It wasn't me who said that."

no and i didnt mean ti imply it was, sorry bout that.

Funny how a certain american president was more than happy to be associated with bruces Born In The USA until it was made clear that he got the sentiments 100% wrong, MMMMH !

Anyway, back to the music. Got to say all the boots I've heard so far - and I've heard 'em all - are great. The Magic songs are so much better live that it bears out my suspicions that this was an album he wrote and arranged so that it could be played live. In that respect the studio versions sound like demos and sketches. Gypsy Biker in particular's a revelation.

From Billboard today:

"Bruce Springsteen scores his eighth No. 1 album on The Billboard 200 with the "Magic" (Columbia), which moved 335,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's his best sales sum since "The Rising" started with 525,000 at No. 1 five years ago.

335,000 units sold last week vs. 525,000 units sold in 2002 the first week out of the box. Roughly 1/3 less sold in the same time period this time around.

yeah the CD market is in the same state of health that it was five years ago, isnt it?

A crushing disappointment I'm sure. How will he manage to cope.,

Downloads are included in Billboard chart positionings are they not?

I've seen Bruce up-close "coping" with empty seats in buildings that used to sell out. It's not pretty actually.

Anyone in the L.A. Area - Stubhub and Tickets now have General Admission Floor Tickets for about $135. Comes out to about $150-165 after fees. That's the same price as a face value Van Halen ticket. and BTW the Sports Arena, though old and falling apart, has much better sound than Staples.

Springsteen now reminds me of the characters
in Tom Wolfe's Radical Chic. Almost laughable.
When your talking points are from the Daily Kos, you're really bereft
of any ideas.
The interview was even worse. Remember Dylan's interview?
Ed Bradley trying to bring out the "songwriter for a generation"
and Dylan anever biting.

That's why they just added a second Oakland show and the LA shows are sold out.
