New Fogerty out today

blistering new album - he'll be on Letterman tonight performing Long Dark Night -

Georgie's in the jungle
Knockin' on the door
Come to Get your children
wants to have a war

chorus:
come on
lord you better run
be a long dark night
before this thing is done

brownie's in the out house
katrina on the line
gulf is a disaster
but georgie says it's fine

rummie's in the kitchen
messin' with the pans
dickie's in the back
stealin everything he can

runnin' down the highway
shoutin' to the lord
georgie's got religion
and you know we can't
afford more years

Got the CD yesterday..it's pretty ok. Not great but definitely a step up from his last CD "Deja Vu All over Again" the collection of songs on that one were weak and passable.

Revival is better in that there are more rockers on here and has more songs that make you think of CCR. Seems like Forgerty tries to move away from that "stereotype" of sound but he might have realized that he shouldn't fix what ain't broken.

The lyrics, unfortunately, are weak and hardly have a spark of creativty. The overall mix of the album is far too clean than I would like Fogerty to sound. The guitars, drums and vocals are all too neat and precise. I want something more dirtier and rougher. The riffs are not inventive--but effective. "Creedence Song" and "Long Shot" are the winners. Fogerty knows how to keep a groove.

Many songs made me roll my eyes.."I Can't Take it No More" is a short but not so sweet song towards Bush. The lyrics are terrible...and Fogerty's guitars sound an attempt to sound punk/Green Day. He even dares to drop in the phrase "fortunate son" in the song ..perhaps as a wink to his hit from the 60's? Terrible decision.

I love Fogerty and will see him in LA this November but his latest studio outputs are too safe and not daring enough. Seeing him live is the sure guarantee at being blown away by him. I saw him once before and I can't wait for the next show.

Album: C+/B-

Cool lyrics, and Letterman probably think so as well.
Didn't know about a new album from Fogerty -will listen to it

actually thought Deja Vu was a solid album. I love how he's been keepin' 'em short and sweet. My biggest complaint about Deja Vu was that he dropped all of the new tunes (sound familiar?) from his live set. He was never the greatest lyricist...I don't find the new tunes to be much better or worse than most of his (at least more) recent work....

Guess I better tape Letterman tonight, how the h&*^ does this VCR work again? I wish somebody would buy me a PVR for a gift. I saw him live a little while ago and he put on a great show, lots of energy.

I'm really hot and cold about him. After the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame debacle, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Just like the Blondie thing. I've got over 700 items in my Blondie collection alone. It made me want to pitch it all in the trash.

Sounds like Hillary Clintons theme song....ooops there I go with a politcal answer....I guess Mick and Keith would have gotten banned if the board existed in the sixties...

YOU GO, JC.

Love ya!

Great article in today's USA Today. Best live musical event I've ever seen - Fogerty at the Tabernacle in Atlanta 2004.

Well I couldn't wait for Fogerty to announce bay area dates. So I broke down and got a ticket for LA. The day after Thanksgiving. Well it can't be any more of a travel pain in the ass than going to LA last year to see the Stones the day before Thanksgiving.....

Fogerty wouldn't play with the other 2.

OT, but that's really strange.

I've heard the record adn it's just great! Some quite powerful stuf there as well. The voice is less raw then is used to, but still very recognizable. Do yourself a favor and buy this one!!

Fogerty's an amazing songwriter. It's obvious that he goes to great lengths to keep things simple...there's genius in that. Like other albums there are songs on this one (Don't You Wish it Was True & Gunslinger come immediately to mind) that after one/two listens, you swear you've known your whole life.

Interesting that I have been listening to this album alot in tandem with his shelved '76 Hoodoo album. The latter is not "bad", but I can certainly understand John's reason for pulling the plug (and destroying the tapes!) on it....it would have flopped. Too slick....just not very Fogerty-ey...

I listened to Fogerty's new one this weekend and it didn't do much for me but I'll give it another shot. Sometimes it takes a few listens for an album to grow on you. I didn't like "Deja Vu All Over Again" at all ... the songs were TOO simplistic, they sounded like they belonged on a children's album.

But I really liked his 1997 album, Full Moon Fever, that one is great and very underated. I saw him on that tour and he was fantastic, hopefully I'll be able to catch him on tour this time as well.

Sugar Sugar (from Deja Vu) has probably his greatest pop hook since Down on the Corner. Instant classic....simplicity ain't so simple....

My only issue with Fogerty's latest output is the mix of the albums. They are TOO clean and unexciting, IMO. I can appreciate the simplicity of a song but the texture and feel of the mix has to provide some kind of flavor.

Out of the 11 songs on Revival...there are 4 or 5 songs which are true winners, for me.

What I found amazing about Fogerty's latest was that he released it through Fantasy Records. Can The End be indeed near?

Even more so if he's referring to Blondie Chaplin

Ouch... Blue Moon Swamp ofcourse. His best solo-record. And actually one of my favorite albums of all time. It's so simple, but brilliant.

Revival is pretty good. It's better than Deja Vu (also not a bad album).
Broken Down Cowboy is just beautiful.

Are there any Bay Area Dates? I didn't find the LA trek to be much of a pain even with the rescheduling but not sure I can pull off an LA trip to see John. Lets hope for SF dates.

And just picked up the new CD and would give it two thumbs up!

Been listening to Revival several times, I think the first part of the album - maybe the first 7 songs, are really great. After that, it's running dry - but what the heck, it's still a very fine album. Gunslinger is a highlight, the verses reminds me of Dylans George Jackson - or maybe some other song?? I know I've heard it somewhere...
When Fogerty sings "..a little bit of that Creedence song..", it's like being taken back to the late 60s - such a great voice
