Quite honestly, I'd be furious if I were inducted there

More:

Donovan

War

J. Geils Band

The James Gang

Harry Nilsson

There are a LOT of GREAT artists that are being hip-hopped over (sorry, couldn't resist) in order to put on these more recent artists that--in some cases-- really aren't as worthy.

What needs to be discussed is Who are the people doing the voting? and What criteria are they using? To be honest, I don't know that much about it, but I gather it's a group of several hundred journalists and industry insiders and maybe a lot of people with some kind of a connection to Rolling Stone Magazine and its publisher, Jann Wenner, whose personal tastes are STRONGLY reflected in every years list of inductees, just a coincidence, I'm sure.

Rock journalists, in particular, tend to want to celebrate artists who DON'T sell a lot of records, but who nontheless have had a profound influence on the artists who followed them and in hindsight, can be seen to have been at the forefront of some kind shift in Rock music's history. The Velvet Underground, for example, or the Sex Pistols. They tend to NOT celebrate artists who, despite their tremendous musical talent AND commercial popularity, are not perceived as influential. A band like Jethro Tull may NEVER get in. For the rock journalists, it's not enough to make great music for its own sake. It's not a question of the quality of your music. If you're not perceived as influential, you're nothing.

Thank you, Luke.

I tend to rant about this subject...which is kind of silly of me because since day one I've felt that the HoF was a joke.

But if you're going to do it, then at least try to get it right.

Exactly. The Rock is gone from the RnR HOF. What a joke.

Gene Simmons had a dispute with the Rock Hall people years ago. They were interested in doing a special KISS Exhibit. Gene wanted to know what the admition price would be and what would his cut be. Probably left a bad taste.

Madonna will probably get in just because it will help sell advertising for the broadcast.

No one ever mentions the Doobie Brothers?

This is from the R&R HOF site:

It's easier to click the link and read it, then to post the BS they say. [www.rockhall.com]

Why do they nominate so many one hit wonders nobody cares about today?

I thought Ringo was getting inducted this year as well---

anyway its good to see the Dave Clark 5 getting in finally, and Leonard Cohen being recognized---

I also agree with the post regarding those acts who havent been noticed: Faces, Small Faces, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Harry Nillson, J Geils, etc---
They should expand their horizons when voting in new acts--

Madonna ?????????????????

The fix is in and has been for a few years.
Political scratch my back and I'll scratch yours bullshhitt. Follow the money...

Remember, the HOF ceremony and induction dinner is run as a separate event, involving HUGE money every year, by a corporation that has nothing to do with Cleveland OH.

The Rock Hall in Cleveland is still a very cool place to check out.

There was a post somewhere (not if it was on this site) about Cat Stevens not getting nominated. The consensus was that he wasn't a "rock star". But Madonna is a rock star?

What's with the RnR HOF organization?
