Without a doubt: Exiles.

If I only could pick one album to listen to for the rest of my life, by any artist, this would be it. Easily the greatest record of all time, and runs a wide gamut of musical styles.

I'll be cranking it on my way home shortly!

Would it have been critically well recieved at the time ? Would it have been remembered...and would folks still be playing it today ?

rather than owning it outright, permitted the artists to decide what to record and how it should sound.
that plus the phenomenon of self-sufficient artist/songwriters who played their own instruments and looked hot doin it
revolutionized the whole music industry, at least for a beautiful and crucial and world-changing spell.

without that bizarre (for that time/place) clause in that record contract,
which ALO says even he didn't understand the ramifications of at the time (well, who could?!)
Exile and all these other albums y'all are naming would never have been recorded,
let alone released/reviewed/well-or-badly received.

i know i know - i'm too literal-minded for this little "what-if" game,
but the real history is so fascinating, and it changed so very much

For me the 1 album for the rest of my life by anybody would be Neil Young's Harvest Moon. That right there is the greatest album ever IMHO
