I think I'm the only person on Earth that loves this song. Why the hatred? To me, it sounds great.Play it loud in your car, feels like Charlie is bashing your leg its so powerful. Also, I totally agree with every word of it.

I like the beat and the music - just hate the lyrics.

Not left or right leaning, just don't like my music and politics mixed. Reminds of the awful 80's song "The Politics Of Dancing".

"No Anchovies, Please"

the first 10 seconds of music are very good...then it gets lame.
at first i thought it might make for a good instrumental...but after the
first 10 seconds there's not much to it. (poor lyrics & vocals IMO)

in general i don't like rock stars or movie stars blatantly
preaching politics in their music...no matter what stance or party
they are siding with. SPicolli (Sean Penn)? Bo Derek? Mick Jagger?
Bruce Sprinsteen? Tom Hanks? Susan Sarandan?

If they were political science or history majors....i'd give them
more credibility...but they're not. The star of "Bosom Buddies" preaching
politics just because he happened to get lucky and make a popular movie? please.

Believe me...even if Sweet Neo Con was a pro Bush song, I'd still
take it with a grain of salt... and call it lame.

IORR............but I like it!

musically, the song is amusing in a crude, "Back to Zero" kind of way. it seems intentional... mick's silly delivery on the vocals adds to a kind of fly buzz in the ear effect.

lyrically, the song is infuriating, not because it's anti-Bush, which it is somewhat, but because it's pro-rich. it's a worried rich man's blues as he watches the price of oil rise. note the wishy-washy conclusion "_IF_ you're right, I'll eat my hat..."

I happen to agree with every single word of Three Blind Mice, but I wouldn't play that in the car either.

Charlie is very good on Sweet Neocon as on the entire BB- album. Actually better than he's been since the early 70's with even more distinct touch, due to better production and recording - equipment. My opinion anyway.

The pits musically and lyricly. I dislike it more every time I hear it. And I can STILL hear Keith and Charlie snickering at it. And Woody just looks the other way. Surely Mick can write something better than that to tour behind.

because Jagger comes across as a 12 year old kid who's just stumbled upon a copy of a Profanisaurus

The sentiment is fair enough - its just expressed in such a banal, infantile way

How many Springsteen songs can you name where hes 'blatantly preaching politics' ?

I wouldn't know, as I don't have a car. but somehow I don't think filling up the tank is mick's concern in the song, more like stock values and so on. besides, it's the final "if you're right..." after all the name-calling that comes off as really cowardly. he's not even committed to the fact that the invasion of iraq (and afghanistan? the song doesn't seem concerned with that, either) was criminal, just imprudent. and then, ooh, he'll eat his hat! heavens to betsy, we can't have that happen... very weak.

Basically, it sounds very much like a Jagger-by-numbers solo track; a very bad one at that, and written in the same kind of bombastic political protest vein as War Baby from the Primitive Cool album. Sadly however, the song says absolutely nothing at all. Which ought to be quite surprising; especially coming from a man who, when it comes to political writing, has a somewhat high and mighty opinion of himself, based upon the fact that he once studied politics as part of his degree at the LSE.

In truth however, these lyrics could have been written by a ten-year old, while a speak-and-spell machine would have delivered it with infinitely more feeling and emphasis.

The song is utterly dreadful, and should have no place on a Rolling Stones album.

yeah thats true. at least theres public transportation where I live

I just thought of something:

Oil prices could have something to do with why ABB ticket prices are so high. because it takes a lot of trucks to haul that stage and equipment around. I mean thats not the ONLY reason, but I think it could be a factor.

Politics and Music? They go together wonderfully. I even like the fact that it is kind of shallow, like so many Neocons are (Fox News anyone?).

Not their best political statement. No up there with CSNY, Dylan, Bob Marley, Springsteen, REM or even some of the Stones other political songs (Undercover, Highwire, Gimme Shelter,). Certainly above the Back to Zero level (good message on Back to Zero - bad delivery).

While I love a good straight-ahead chase-the-opposite-sex, go drinking with your mates rocker....there are just as many times I enjoy a song with a message. Even a message I may not agree with.

Did oil prices rocket out of control between 98 and 99, then?

Or was it just the Stones whose trucks were affected ...

Theres one reason for the prices and one reason only.

I think the song has a great groove and always love Mick on the harmonica, if you don't take the lyrics too seriously its an enjoyable tune. I laugh when I hear Mick say its 'given me the shits' ... some songs with politcal topics get people all fired up if they don't agree with them but its not like Mick is trying to change the world by writing it... Imagine going to a U2 show and having to hear Bono preach his world views.
