Oh my god! Did anybody else notice Mick's powerful singing on Sympathy? I need that on boot. Anyone know what concert it was taken from? Thanks Riffbuk, it's been a lot of years waiting to see that TV special.

Pretty sure its from East Troy, Wis. Alpine Valley, Sept. 9 or 11
there's a sbd bootleg also from 1 of those gigs

according to show reports , the first few weeks of that tour , Mick went really nuts

nice interviews, i have that on vhs, taped it the nite it aired on 20/20, havent watched it in years, good memories, also have the steel wheels press
conf on the same vhs, i remember being very excited to watch that press conf, i taped it while i was at work and made a b line for my vcr when i got home, it was like christmas morning when i was a kid

yes chippy the interview segment is from East Troy, WISCONSIN (Alpine Valley)...
don't know for sure if that's where the '89 performance footage is from...

I went to those shows...awesome. (front row K's side...so close that
because of the angle I couldn't see charlie...except for the bow)

Wow...I saw the 2 opening shows n Philly on this tour and it seemed a miracle to see them on stage again and so vital. You're right, frankotero ...Jagger's almost jumping out of his skin...so committed and so deeply into it...almost...dare I say...too much? If anything he's oversinging and over-emoting...but God, what a performance...

Was Steel Wheels the first Stones tour in which Mick hired a choreographer
to help?

his movements are so much more by-the-numbers now. he still had a bit of craziness for this tour.

What suprises me on 20/20 was Keith and Elton John on the backstage sharing the same space!

Already in 74, around Christmas, Elton John made a stirr about some rumours that Ron should join the Stones, that Keith didnt like it so much..Then in 75 Elton had it very hard to leave the stage, when he was invited to perform with the Stones.After Keith made a remark when Peter Rudge sugestted that they should add elephant on stage for the 75 Tour of Americas
- " I absolutely draw the line at elephant....I worked with Elton and that was enough"

It's so funny to watch nearly 20 years old videos where the reporter is wondering about Mick's amazing fitness in his late 40ies.

The Stones were still a cool band during the Steel Wheels era, you could wear a Stones concert shirt on a college campus in '89 and attract girls' attention but if you wore that just 5 years later (instead of a Nirvana, Jane's Addiction one).............
In retrospective, Steel Wheels was the last time when the general audience cared about them and their new music.

Today, all people in my age - about 20 - say, I'm cool for being such a great Stones-fan (11 concerts in 2007)

'89-'90 Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle seems like yesterday to me.
'89 was the first time I'd seen them live (East Troy - Alpine)
Watching that video again...It's an eye-opener to see how fashion etc
has changed in a short 18 yrs. Ronnie was 42 I think....I'm 43 now.
Hard to believe.
