mercy - It's All Over Now is by Bobby & Shirley Womack
MJ/KR's first might have been one of these (from nzentgraf.de):

1963 20th - 21st November: London, Regent Sound Studios. Producer Andrew Oldham.
Sound engineer: Bill Farley.
- My Only Girl (MJ/KR) - STU on piano; early version of 'That Girl Belongs
to Yesterday'; demo for George Bean, later given to Gene Pitney
- Leave Me Alone (MJ/KR) -STU on piano
- It Should Be You I (MJ/KR) -demo for George Bean
- It Should Be You II (MJ/KR) -Rolling Stones-version
- Shang a Doo Lang (MJ/KR) -demo for Adrienne Poster
- So Much In Love (MJ/KR) -demo for The Mighty Avengers
- Will You By My Lover Tonight (MJ/KR) -demo for George Bean; unverified

I recall reading it was 'That Girl Belongs To Yesterday'.....

Question was published, not played or rehearsed or whatever.

"That girl belongs to yesterday" was only first published in january 1964. In the same month George Bean brought out his single "will you be my lover tonight" that also credits Jagger/Richards.

"Stoned" (Nanker Phelge) could be regarded as their first published "song" then, as a B-side to "I wanna be your man" in november 1963, though Nanker Phelge is of course not really an alias for Jagger/Richards and gives equal credit to Stu, Charlie, Brian and Bill as well.

yes, Marco, i know the question was "published", not "recorded", which is why i wrote "it might have been one of these".
as you note, Stoned isn't a MJ/KR tune, so That Girl Belongs to Yesterday might indeed be the first published.
do you have the publishing date for Shang a Doo Lang as well? that one was also released before Tell Me.

According to the 'Searching for shakes" database Adrienne Posta released Shang a doo lang on the 20th of march 1964, so about 2 months after Pitney and Bean brought out their songs.

well, but when was it published?

It was only a single (Decca F 11864) and never on any album so I guess it was published on this date in march.

well, if you're sure the publishing date always coincides with the release date ...

I believe it was That Girl Belongs to Yesterday which was released by Gene Pitney. The first song they actually wrote together was It Should Be You, according to Mick.

You're all wrong... The first song they published - or to be precise: played in public as "Glimmer Twins" (and that is the headline of this thread!) - was "Prodigal Son". Performed in Stockholm on 4 Sep 1970, it was introduced by Mick Jagger with the following words: "This is a Glimmer Twin section" - Keith and Mick performed it without the band.

really: where is the eye-rolling smiley?
published means published, not recorded/released/played in public -
although by now i have serious doubts that published is what the original question really wanted to know.

"Glimmer Twins" was the title given for Proudcer, not song writing credits.

OK, when it comes to "first production by the Glimmer TWins" I guess we're talking about It's Only Rock 'n Roll aren't we?

I wouldn't have written a line if you had asked for the first Jagger/Richards composition. Or: What was the song they wrote in the kitchen? Or the one they probably haven't written first but was published first. Why not be even earlier? First song of is not first song by, ain't it? So what about the Little Boy Blue demos as an answer then?
(O.k., all hair straws are split, we're bald)
I thought It's only Rock'n' Roll to be the too obvious answer. And I thought any first composing attempts as wrong by the term Glimmer Twins. That's why I mentioned the 1970s tour, especially because I guess it's not that known that four years before they became officially the Glimmer Twins they called themselves in public the Glimmer Twins. They did that acoustic set regularly but not always introduced with these words.
