Half of those songs are Hagar songs. If I were you I'd buy VH1, Women and Children First, and 1984. Actually all of the Roth CDs are pretty strong. Diver Down is the weakest, but still good. Little Guitars is a great song on Diver Down, but for me, Dancing In The Street and Big Bad Bill make it weaker than the rest.

I'd pick up all six of the Roth era albums. They were all remastered several years ago so they sound alot better than when they were originally released on CD back in the mid 80's. You can usually find them fairly cheap, too.
As far as the tour goes, they've added alot more shows after the original tour announcement was made. I see that Anaheim and Oakland have just been added to the end of the tour just before Christmas.

I'd say picking up "Best of Both Worlds" is a good starting point if you are new to VH but jomo and DGA35 make good points about the first 6 Roth era discs all being worthwile ... I was also a little disappointed with Diver Down but stll a few choice cuts there as described by jomo.

There's a bunch of pretty good live vids on youtube if you hunt around and I'm always amazed when I stumble on some of these like 11 year old guitar prodigies who seem to be able to emulate Eddie and Malmsteen etc. note for note ... freaks me out!

Skip Best Of and by as many David Lee Roth era CDs you can, definitely including VH1.

I posted this on another thread, but I think it belongs here, sorry for the duplication,

Jim,

Monday at 10am I am going to attempt to buy a single ticket thru ticketmaster for VH at the Staples Center. Do you know what the price range will be?
Thanks,
Allan

WHEN Michael Anthony would play the bass, than I would fly for sure to 1 show to the USA. I want not say, that Wollfi is bad, BUT I want to see the orginal line-up!

I was one of the people saying that without Michael Anthony, I'd probably skip this tour unless I found a real cheap ticket. Even though I saw the show for free on Sunday, I found that Wolfgang was very good at what he does and would say to any fan to not let Michael Anthony's not being there prevent you seeing the band. As David said late in the show on Sunday "Van Halen 3/4 original, 1/4 inevitable". Anthony will never be in this band again.

I couldn't say Allan, I get shut out every time I attempt to buy online thru ticketmaster so I went ahead and bought my floor seats from Stubhub prior to public sale here in Calgary. I paid roughly 400 bucks for decent floor seats here, if you get through on ticketmaster you'll save a few bucks but I'm not sure of the price range. Other venues with sales already open are showing about $150 for good seats, $80 for average and about $50 for cheap seats ... let us know if you are succesful getting tix on Monday and what you paid.

Hey Jim,

It looks like Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary are the only cities where they haven't announced when tickets go on sale yet. Have you heard any rumours as to when they'll be announced?

Never say never
certianly when it comes to VH - never is never in stone

What comes after this tour?
Possibly a new album... possibly another split
who knows

ONE THING I have always been certian of is that Roth would sing with VH again.
WHY? Because the VH boys had run out of reasons for you to buy a ticket.
Everyone balked at the Cherone era, so there was a Hagger reunion... and that was less than spectacular as far a ticket sales go.

Roth singing with the band was the ONLY thing they could do to spark interest and make head lines again.

when this tour is over what happens? What do we pay to see next time? What is the shocker? What happens when the 15 year old Wolfie becomes a 20 year old with his OWN band? How will the VH gang get thier ego stroked by the charge of 20,000 cheering fans?

ANSWER - The ULTIMATE Van Halen Tour with the OG line-up AND Haggar playing the second guitar and singing his big hits while Roth leaves the stage.
really, I belive that you will see a VH that has both Sam and Dave on vocals.
Open with all 5 on stage running thru some Roth era jams, middle is the Haggar spotlight while Roth goes backstage, does blow and gets head from a local stripper and then a big third act of Roth songs.
It pays tribute to the bands rich history of rock hits with the guys who made the music and its the ONLY thing that will be interesting in 5-10 years from now.

I know it sounds crazy, but crazy is the norm in this drama filled rock band.

one way or the other, I DO wish Mike was playing bass... BUT I CAN'T FLIPPIN' WAIT to see this show when it hits Cleveland next month!

it will be fun no matter what

Radiomarv, that is a truly classic post and maybe you are right, they milk it until every possible permutation has been explored and ran into the ground ... nice one!

Yeah I heard Michael Anthony on a radio show Fri. I'm not even sure why he was on. He had nothing new to promote and said that he had not talked to Eddie since the end of the 2004 tour. He had no hard feelings towards Eddie. But basicly hinted that the band's problem's were due in large part to DLR.

"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"

Got my ticket for VH at the Staples Center (L.A.) via ticketmaster right as they went on sale. Loge section 15 rows up from floor about 2/3 to 3/4 back. Considering all the season ticket holders who sell to brokers, I can't complain.

What? No dates for Houston yet? Last time the Roth version of Van Halen came to town in '84 they did 3 shows. We gotta alot of people waiting on this show down here!

Hi Harlito. I'm sure they'll add more shows in the new year. They've alredy added several more shows since the original announcement was made. Let's see how they survive these shows first!

Thanks DGA35, I was just coming to post about the tickets for Vancouver/Edmonton/Calgary ... beat me to it.

Just a couple of days until the tour kicks off in Charlotte on the 27th, so I'll be interested in how they do in that first show and how the press and pundits will treat youg Wolfgang.
