Dave Grohl instead of Jason Bonham?

After much speculation (and denials) this Summer, it would appear that the rumours of a one-off Led Zeppelin reunion are true.

The PR company who are handling the forthcoming double-disc Led Zepp best of 'Mothership' are holding a press conference this Wednesday (September 12).

The press call at the 02 Centre, we are led to believe will officially announce the Led Zeppelin reunion, which will possibly be at the 02 Arena, but the date of which is yet to be confirmed.

By all accounts, Robert Plant somewhat let the proverbial cat out of the proverbial bag last week when he turned up at the Gibson Guitartown London charity exhibition, where he signed a special 10-foot hand-painted Gibson Les Paul.

Asked by a fan if he was looking forward to the show at the O2, Plant replied: “How did you know about that?” He then added that there was a band meeting that very afternoon to discuss the show.

Now that it is established that there will, indeed, be a show - new rumours are now floating that the reformed band will feature Foo Fighters and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl on the drum stool.
Former rumours about the band reunion speculated that John Bonham's son Jason would be filling in for his late father.

In other Led Zepp related news, Robert Plant is to release a new album Raising Sand, next month. Recorded with bluegrass singer and fiddle virtuoso Alison Krauss and producer T-Bone Burnett you can find out more about it on John Mulvey's blog here.

Come back to uncut.co.uk on Wednesday, when hopefully we'll be able to reveal the date that everyone seems to be talking about.

I know for a fact that Dave is a fan of Zeppelin and a friend of at least John Paul Jones. When Zeppelin received their Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 2005, I went down to the hotel where the awards were given out the day before the actual Grammy awards. Dave was there in attendance and afterwards was talking for awhile with Jones. I got autographs and photos with both of them. Jones also appeared on the Foo Fighters album In Your Honor later that year.

Foo Fighters have a new album out in 2 weeks and will be touring behind it. The rumored date for Zeppelin at the 02 is on November 26th. The Foos have a tour of the UK form November 3-18. After the 13th, they only have 2 London dates at the O2 on the 17th and 18th. That would allow Dave almost 2 weeks of being in London to rehearse with Zeppelin prior to the 26th. I could see him doing the one off show in November, as well as the rumored tour next year, as long as it occurs late enough to where he's had enough time to this new Foos album. Afterall, he was the drummer in Queens Of The Stone Age a few years back while still being the leader of Foo Fighters.

Jason Bonham is currently the drummer for Foreigner who also have a UK tour in November ending on the 17th in London. He would also have time to rehearse with Zeppelin as well.

If it happens it would really suck if they used Grohl. I mean, who do they think John Bonham would rather have playing with the band, his son or some drummer from another band? The surviving members should show his memory a little respect.

Well respect for John Bonham is just one aspect. Maybe Jason just cannot fit it into his schedule?
Another thing is that i don't think Jasons style of drumming would fit Led Zep's music. Same applies for Dave Grohl, i love his drumming but i'm not too sure if it fits well for Led Zep. I'd go with Steve Gorman of the Black Crowes, he did a fantastic job when they played with Jimmi Page.

Look lets be honest here, the Zeepelin are certianly not as good as say aroung P. Grafffit. and maybe page and plant are not the force they once were, and some say totally past it but and i would still with regard the drummer duties, i would go and see them if they had dave clarke on drums.

Well Dave Grohl is certainly a very talented guy and I like The Foo's a lot. But I think Jason just fit's better in so many ways....As for the ne Plant Allison Kraus CD. I heard 1 song off of it so far. Quick prediction, this thing will sink faster than the Titanic. Espicially if Zep does tour. Awful,is being kind.

Regardless of drumming ability I think Jason would provide the right vibe ... as to Zach Starkey, I saw him with The Who several months back and he was surprisingly accomplished and powerful (it's big praise cause I am A huge Moonie guy!)

The Black Crowes live stuff with Jimmie was awesome and one reviewer correctly identified the underestimated and underlying power of Zep as the enormous bottom provided by Jones and Bonham and reproduced effectively by The Crowes rythym section backing Page.

I've seen Jason play with Jimmy, If Jason is not on board, I don't think I will be.

I'm burning candles and praying that Dave Grohl wont be the drummer.

I would prefer Michael Lee who played with Page & Plant in the nineties. A very good drummer. He was brilliant when I saw them 1995.

My understanding is that Grohl will appear as a special guest but won't be occupying the drum stool for the whole set.

Here's a quote from Grohl in Rolling Stone ragazine 2004:

"I believe Zeppelin will come back and prove themselves to once again be the greatest rock band of all time. It will happen. They'll find someone to play the drums and I'll be right there, front row at every g*ddamn show. Then I could finally die a happy man.

(From RS 946, April 15, 2004)"

So Plant confirmed it to a fan and that's the source. Priceless.
