I don't have any of his records, but do like a lot of the early stuff already mentioned.
If he writes his own songs, I think he does a pretty good job.

If I'm not mistaken, John Fogerty and family moved somewhere near the midwest around the Blue Moon Swamp tour, closer to his wife's family. I'm thinking he might be in Indiana too now (not exactly Midwest, but close).

..his televised ''aint even done with the night'' way back was mesmerizing, that got him recognition and out of the south and spread out thru the states,,

i read something wayyy back that he put a bunch of 'writers' in a room until they came up with something as good as 'brown sugar',, that 'tumbling walls' was the result.. but remember, i dont believe everything i read, especially here,,,
in fact, i dont even believe the stuff i write........

IMHO one of his best songs. Certainly better than anything from American Fool onwards.

I'm a big Mellencamp fan. Think his stuff speaks to a lot of Americans - of course I did grow up in a country town. To me, his best album is Human Wheels. I play that one constantly.

I saw Mellencamp and band play a free, unplugged, lunchtime set at Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago sometime in late 90's I think...place was packed, "stage" was about 9 inches off the ground...no real sound system, couldn't see nuthin...HOWEVER...his 6 song set opened with Street Fighting Man!!! and also included The Spider and the Fly!!! How cool is that????

I saw one of those free shows too - the one in Atlanta. Just John, Mike, and a fiddler girl (not Lisa Germano though). He also did "Chevrolet" as well as a few hits like "Pink Houses". Really cool. John got a little irritated with a bozo who kept yelling "Cougar"!

"No Anchovies, Please"

John should get off the political soapbox and cut out the cigs. His voice is getting worse by the month.
