Sweethcharmedlife, now you are famous fan too, eh? Nice topic!

Timbernardis, I met some fans from the German group at the second
O2 show, sitting behind me, nice people! Er, what do you mean,
you "suppose" Shidoobee? (Thanks.)

Beast and Rockman, haha, notables among the famous and the infamous,
haaa. Most likely the first, in IORR. :-)

Little Queenie, I hear ya, loudly. So good to meet you and these
other famous fans.

i think it has a few reasons behind it - everyone in my high school was into the dead so i had lots of friends who wanted to go to shows, but our group didn't expand and evolve too much. every had their cliques. but also, everyone was very young and maybe had not yet learned to open up.

when i started to see a lot of shows, i had no stones clique, only a friend here or there who might go with me (high prices, semi-rigid setlists, and distances traveled seem to be big deterrents). but hey, i'm not going to miss out because no one else wants to go! i'm also an only child so i like to think of myself as pretty independent.

shidoobee is much more organized in terms of meeting up than we are - but on this board, people are very open to making personal connections through email. keeping my email unhidden has been a good thing.

angie
where are you from and why do i feel like i know you?

Yes, definitely Shidoobee. I am also a Shidoobee, but an inactive one mostly. I pop up now and then. Betweeen MSG shows last year, got together with Stones Doug and a bunch of others (a nice older guy from like LA or San Diego who was also in London) for dinner.

In Vancouver, my daughter and I were the second and third people in the door at the Shidoob preparty at the Dog Haus (posted some fotos in this forum mostly of my daughter with face painted with tongues and her award winning 'what I would save from a fire' essay, she too was with me at the Pilot before the last two shows- now 13),

but they arent too active when the stones are not touring the states. and its just that i first got associated with iorr, shidoobee later. I know a lot more people on these boards, mostly UK or Euro, than americans. And I am guessing that the Stones knowledge collectively on IORR is superior to Shidoobee. And I had a big fight with one Shidoob member over something stupid that happened 30 years ago --"get over it", but no!

anyway, esp this summer, i have strenthened my IORR ties more than ever. Besides, this is where I made my identity as The Plexiglass (oh BTW, forget timbernardis, Timber, Tim or anything else -- simply The Plexiglass or some variation will do -- Plexi seems most used, or another is fine).

So, have I adequately explained my "and I suppose the Shidoobees" remark??!! ask my anything else you like.

And the Germans, oh the germans (and the associated german-speaking swiss), they are very special and close to my heart. I met the first two of them outside Berlin last year by simply asking about their MSG Jan 06 t shirts and had a 2 minute chat in the t shirt line. But that was the start.

This year, they passed me around for travel and show advice in different parts of Germany and nearby countries and were SO helpful and accomodating. I am now a member of their club stonestreff.de (also has an English translated version) and have started to post recently. They all understand English so it is fine by them.

And I have two very special freunds on their board, Iris from Nordwalle (who i have informally taken as a sister) and little go-getter Steffi from Landsberg (one of their administrators), my dance partner.

Anyway, where were your seats for that second show? I can easily find out who was sitting behind you.

Anyway, this must be boring for most of you, so tell me so if you like.

when (what years) were you in Reno. My questions will make more sense after I hear back from you and then respond.

i'm intrigued...i was there from '94-'97 (then in washington state for over a year) then back in reno again from '98-'01.

OK Queenie.

I guess high school kids being into the Dead in '85 in Chicago may not be too strange, but I do find it a little so. I would have thought they would have been into something else at that time and in that place.

What I find really disturbing is your remark that, no just kidding, i am overplaying it, BUT ...

You were in Reno from 94-97. I don't think they started going sky high with the prices til the Licks tour, so not sure what you mean.

Secondly, though there are not many venues in Nevada outside of Vegas, you weren't very far from the Bay Area, LA, even San Diego (and don't forget the shows in Sacto in 99). I guess it depends on what you or your (then potential) travelling companions thought of as a long distance.

I guess LA could be considered that, but I am used to driving distances in Montana and way out of Montana. I drove 400 miles to see them in Missoula (Montana) last October and we drove home the night of the show, went to work the next day, then the day after, drove 8 hours up to Regina in Canada to catch that show.

And in 89, we drove 1,400 miles one way to Indianapolis to see the two shows there.

You too, Q,
--I hear a bunch of great fans are in Chicago and some were in the Pilot Inn Aug. 23rd. I travel there a few times a year.

chicago is a very classic rock city. my high school, while it was one of the best public high schools in the country, was drug-infested. more recently, a time magzine article was titled "high times at new trier high". drugs and dead go hand in hand.

in '97, i paid $60 for tickets at the back of the lower riser section on the side.

in '99, tickets in the lower risers closest to the stage (without being directly next to the stage) were $250. and that was for sacramento.

and yes, driving 2.5 hours through the mountains from reno to sacramento is a trip for lots of people in reno. what's worse is if there's snow - it took me over 4 hours to drive there for a rage against the machine show (which only lasted 1.5 hours - but well worth it).

One of the rules I have set to myself at Stones shows is to keep the distance from the people who have 'shidoobie' t-shirts. Don't ask me why. One of those idiosyncratic things probably. Don't like gangs (or they don't like me?)...

Ah, SCL, my nemesis! Didn't see this until today, still in transit recovering from the London Sessions (as they were). Flattered that this rookie is included with the Best and Brightest. Very afraid I might meet some of them again - had to go on a Whisky Tour in Scotland to try to recover from the party that was Stones Week in London! Sheesh! No wonder Keith didn't come down to the bar at the Covent Garden Travelodge - he'd be scared off by the hard-core partying that was taking place 24/7!!! The Man can only survive so much... Y'all should have been there (with appropriate medical insurance, of course). Have been off line for a while, so looking forward to getting home in a week and catching up with the rest of the world, and IORR, and seeing if I need to defend my honour... which may well be indefensible at this point... Cheers and Slainte, all!

Yes, he was right up front near the pond at one of the Hollywood Bowl shows, dancing and having a good time. They showed him on the large screen above the stage.

i flew from reno on a rumor that the stones would play at the Belly Up, a small beach bar, north of san diego so went to the pond show by default.

we bought scalped crap seats in the upper balcony and stupidly took a drug that distracted me from the show and affords me little memory of it, except for Some Girls. i saw the setlist recently and am kicking myself.

the band at the Belly Up heard the rumor and played beast of burden.
