My love for the Faces has taken me to an interest in solo Ronnie Lane...but I'm not sure what, if anything to look for. Everyone here always seems to know their stuff, so can anyone help in finding a solo Ronnie Lane album to pick up? Thanks!

hi m8,

i see your request but cant help im afraid - if however you take a detour down the "presley" route, i can suggest some "artifacts" of interest....

Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane did an album together called Rough Mix in the late 70s. I should dig that out too. Lots of good stuff on there.

I dig Ronnie a lot and I like his third album-- One For The Road, best.

The first two, Anymore For Anymore, and Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance are also great.

Anymore for Anymore is a particular favourite of mine.had at least 2 copies on vinyl, now got the cd extended version, can't lay my hands on it at present , but I'm pretty sure I have another copy of it somewhere as well still sealed. If I find it I'll consider selling it or trading for a silver boot.
Another good one to get is Rocket 69 live includes Ian Stewart on piano it has a video disc with it as well, can't remember what type that is but it's not a dvd.,I think the show is from German tv.
One for the Road and Slim Chance come up quite often on ebay ,plus a few various best of and repackages.
Hope this is of some small help to you.

Yes-- "Rough Mix" by Townsend and Lane is excellent-- lots of good material by Ronnie Lane on it, and Charlie Watts plays drums on it, and Clapton is on a few cuts too

when i was a wee school lad i picked up his first solo effort "I've Got My Own Album to Do " second hand, simply becasue he was a "face" loved it then and its still a fave, great groove/feel album. the likes of keef and bobby womack help out. Breathe On Me is a lost classic. the follow up "now look aint half bad either. dont think there available anymore, but the recent(ish) dble compilation (name escapes me) wouldnt be a bad place to start. covers faces, jeff beck, sol stuff etc.

"You Never Can Tell" collects tracks from several different BBC appearances. Excellent representation of live Slim Chance, although it does repeat a lot of songs.

I don't know much about Ronnie Lane, but Flags & Banners is my favorite song on the Ooh La La album.

What year did he die? It's got to be over 20 years now, I would think.

Really, it was 1997! I would have bet money that it was 87 or earlier.

Thanks for confirming.
