there has been a lot of criticism of the lack of ABB songs on this tour, but what the hell happened to the BTB album. I'm guessing there isnt a lot of love for that record within the band. Not a single song live this tour? As well as the ones they did so well before (Out of Control/Saint of me), I think Too tight, already over me, Gunface and a few others would have worked live. Any thoughts..

Agree . Out Of Control / Saint Of Me / Already Over Me would have been welcome additions to the 2007 ABB European Tour. They don't seem to realise how good these songs are and how the fans feel about them ?
Unfortunately they just don't have the self-assurance to play newer songs for a longer time these days!
But BtB was a great album and a very good tour!
Some of the best songs on those BtB dates were from their latest album. Out of Control and Saint of Me were highpoints of each gig! And Flip, Thief and Anybody seen my B. were live great as well!
I don't remember a tour with new songs as highpoints for a long, long time . .
btb was good but some of it was them trying to be hip, and its just kind of cringey. Like the rap on anybody seen my baby. Saint of me live was really good, but i think the ablum version is cringey. "Might as well get juiced " had a very contemporary sound, but that one not cringey to me, i thoght it worked.
BtB is my favourite Stones album since Undercover. And it was the album with the best live songs since Tattoo You (Out Of Control, Flip The Switch, Anybody Seen My Baby ? (crowd going wild for this!), Saint Of Me, Thief In The Night, You Don't Have To Mean It, Might As Well Get Juiced, Low Down, Already Over Me, How Can I Stop ?).
If the songs got more saturated airplay on the radio everyone would be holding their cellphones up and dancing in their seats.
Unfortunately, many stones fans feel the band only really played and existed in the 70's early 80's and thus don't particularly buy or like the records they have put out after 'tattoo you'.
so without the fans buying the albums, and only complaining when they don't hear some rarity from 1973 or earlier, what's the band supposed to do?
i'd love to hear the stones play modern material from their last 3 or 4 studio albums in concert. i'd pay to see that anyday.

what the man said
(aside from the bit about 'anybody seen my baby' being great live - whilst I love the studio version, when played live it was totally flat and went down about as well as a fart in a spacesuit...)
B2B is their best album since Some Girls and I whole-heartedly agree that this album had the best live songs. I wish they would've played these songs on the Bigger Bang tour. Just wanted to say that the studio version of Saint of Me is awesome, one of their best tracks ever (one of the top 5 since the 70s) and the rap in Anybody Seen My Baby is actually really well done I think. I'm 23 and I've grown up with all kinds of rap and am I'm very aware of what's going on currently. The rap in ASMB is still to this day not tacky and could even be released as is today and it would still be great. Also kudos to them for putting Angelina Jolie in this video.

Perhaps I need to give it another listen. I just bought B2B for the first time recently. Ive had the DVD for years and Ive always liked Saint of Me on it but the ablum version just sounds so cheezy to me, the way its produced.

Summer and fall 1997 were very very high times for me as a Stones fan. I was working at a magazine in NYC at the time and was lucky to get my hands on an advance tape of "Bridges." I'll never forget sitting at my desk and hearing those tracks for the first time: "Gunface," "Out Of Control," "Always Suffering?" Great tracks. And then, when "Thief In The Night" and "How Can I Stop?" came up, I felt bewildered and thrilled by the Stones' soulfulness and creativity. To this day, the Shorter sax part and Charlie and Keltner's percussion just slay me...
The Stones made a great, sprawling, experimental album in '97--and it has been largely forgotten.
Also, "Might As Well Get Juiced" at MSG in Jan. '98--a glorious experiment. Proud that the Stones would try something so off-the-wall.

They finally did indeed perform a decent version of it on the Bremen PPV show.
I liked BTB more at the time, probably because of the wait since their masterpiece, Voodoo. BUt man as good as ASMB, Saint of Me, Always Sufferin, Too Tight, Low Down, OOC are, Gunface, Might as well get Juiced and all 3 Keef songs are equally crappy. I hardly ever listen to that album anymore. I thought for sure Keef had lost his song writing touch until ABB when he redeemed himself.

'Voodoo Lounge' is the Stones' 'masterpiece' ???

On what songs do you mean? He barely wrote anything on ABB. It's the most Jagger-dominated album the Stones have done since 'Some Girls'.....

Why do you like The Stones if you think How Can I Stop is crappy?? IMO the best Keith has come up with since Little T + A.
And Gunface is IMO the worst bummer of a song presented on a stones album, except for Back To Zero.

I agree with you over "Might As Well Get Juiced". A very contemporary sound which really served the track. I also like the sound of "Gunface", by the way.
Such tracks on one hand and some hot blues rooted tracks, getting the Jagger-treatment, like "Back Of My Hand" on the other: There are many strong contenders from the Steel Wheels+ albums to choose from. Certainly more than one would think at first...
