the way the rolling stones end.

i know there has been numerous posts about the stones ending, do we want them to, do we want them to continue, do we think they will quit or do we think they will rock till one of them dies.

one thing that is certain is they will end eventually, whether it is now or in the future a long time off.

but how would you want them to finish.

1. quit after 02 gig in london on sunday.
2. keep touring/recording until one of jagger/watts/richards dies.
3. continue after one of them dies but with replacements
4. keep going but in a much reduced workload, smaller tours and a couple of albums then dissapearing off the radar.
5. keep going and building up to the 5oth anniversary then going out with an album and tour and never coming back.

im all for options 2 and 5.

against options 1,3 and 4.

what do you think.

6. They will end when the last of the 4 (MJ,KR,CW,RW) died.IMO

to replace somebody is the most awful idea, if they are doing this they will be in my history book as another bloody burned out continuing cash in machine.
But in my opinion 2, 4, 5 are looking quite he same. 50th ann. will be in 5 years so if there will be an album in between and maybe two or three small tours
they reach it.
anyway, future will tell

brainer.

i wouldnt want that to be the case.

cos then we could have ronnie wood surrounded by by people who never were origonal band members.

and as ronnie isnt either it isnt really the same band who started.

once mick, kieth or charlie dies, it has to finish.

Morbid, but true.

IMO they can't replace Ronnie either so if one quits/dies whatever they should quit. I just hope that when they do they do it with a sort of final concert in London (and that i'll be standing front row ;-))

Cheers,

My vote goes for :
option 1 : stop at their peak

option 4 seems realistic, but I would really like them to be remembered as a great act, not a regular arena filling tour band. It's about THE STONES, not the Eagles...

They always say they want to rock till they drop and die on the road. The question is: are we willing to let them do it?

i can imagine they would replace ron wood if neccessary. i can even imagine they would replace charlie. as long as keith is o.k. they will keep on rolling.

5. keep going and building up to the 5oth anniversary then going out with an album and tour and never coming back.

i like this idea best, but never coming back is not likely.

Even when the touring ends, the music remains - see Elvis, Buddy, Hendrix, Lennon, Marley, etc.

i think they will finish in some little club in London. that would be the end

thrak, I actually had that same thought - with several numbers from the 1st setlist.

Bring back any living alumni (Taylor, Wyman, Mac, etc.) that want to attend. Film and record the show. Give me a front row seat for such a wonderful idea. Oh yeah, thrak gets a ticket too.

it was easier to reply after the european leg of last year. I saw them in milan and berlin and keith and ronnie were embarassing. but after this tour it is very difficult to answer, i personally think they should do another world tour in 2-3 years, with a new album. but anything they'll decide it will be ok, i am full of respect and i will thank them forever for those fantastic 45 years of r'n'r' and for the 27 years of emotions of my rolling stones fan life( I started to listen to them in 1980, i was only 14).
so, someway answer n°2, if of course they will all be fine. And if i will be fine too, i will go to see them again

"The way the Rolling Stones End, a short film by ohnotyouagain":

Keith: Bloody 'ell, who left the vodka bottle at the bottom of the stairs? I'll just go down and fetch it ...

(Stumbles over first stair, tumbles headfirst down remaining stairs)

Keith: AAAAARRRRRGGGGHH!!!!!

Bottle of Vodka, seeing Keith coming: AAAAARRRRRGGGGHH!!!!!

(Keith crashes into vodka bottle, both explode and shatter into thousands of pieces. More vodka escapes from Keith than from the vodka bottle. And this is the way the Rolling Stones end. Fade to black.)

Ronnie can be replaced by Frank Kaiser of Ontario, he is really good on guitar in Stones respect, but I think they will pull a Sopranos, no announcement or anything that says 'THIS IS THE LAST TOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!' Kind of like after the 81 tour, but they won't come back......if they have any self respect at all. I want to remember Mick and Keith like the 78 tour, my absolute favourite of all.
I only wish they would put out a dvd with this tour,(I know about Handsome Girls but they want over 100 bucks on ebay.

I can't imagine the Rolling Stones waiting on a chair.
I think it's not the last tour bacause Mick, Ron, Charlie and Keith can play for another tour, why not in 2010, better if Keith want to sell his autobiography.
But they can stop because of an problem of health (alcool), but they don't know themselves yet.

my daughter (8 years old) told me something a few weeks ago.
- "daddy do you know why they can't stop ?"
- "hum...no"
- "they are stones rolling. Stones rolling can't stop because it rolls again and again and nothing can't stop them"...

so simple ! so obvious.

James Brown died at 73 (but because of delayed treatment of pneumonia).

B.B. King is still on the road at the age of 82.

Chuck Berry (81) toured Germany last year (critics and audience were enthusiastic).

Kris Kristofferson now 71 ("Blame it on the Stones" [www.lyricsfreak.com])

Jerry Lee Lewis still not dead and singing at 72.

Keith Richards promised that it is over when one of them dies on stage. And that is how it's gonna be.

Well you can't compere these with the Stones, can you? None of them is as great as they used to be. Wouldn't like to see a 70 or 80 year old Jagger stagger on stage.
