Great song!

Wasn't it the B-side of the "Jumpin' John Flash" single?

;-)

REM's song Man Of The Moon was loosely based on the Stones classic Child On The Moon......little known fact winking smiley

It's a typo, no big deal. It made me laugh, though, because it reminded me of the old days buying bootleg CDs from Japan or China where the song titles were close, but not quite accurate, i.e., "Jimping Jack Frash"...

:-)

Aww, "Child on the Moon" is a preposition away from being correct. We all knew what Wild Horse Pete was referring to.

The current issue of MOJO ranks Child of the Moon rather highly in its list of the 50 greatest Stones tracks. I love the song, but I would not rank it ahead of Tumbling Dice, Paint It Black, Under My Thumb, Happy, Let's Spend the Night Together, Midnight Rambler, All Down the Line, You Can't Always Get What You Want, The Last Time, Ruby Tuesday, Monkey Man, Dead Flowers, Bitch, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Stray Cat Blues, Beast of Burden and Start Me Up, all of which ranked below Child of the Moon.

Ranking above it were mostly warhorses that we know by their initials: BS, GS, Love in Vain, Wild Horses, SFM, HTW, JJF, Satisfaction and in the top slot, SFTD.

Lists are silly.

I love it and it also shows that the stones could have made their satanic majesties stuff that much better had they not gone so OTT with overdubbing.

Imagine if Satanic had been issued with Child, Dandelion and We Love You on it. It would have acclaimed as an all-time killer album.

I can't get rid of this song.

Yesterday, I had it mind two hours in a row, ridding my motorbike. I was else where, hitting the motorbike 16 hits per measure at 60 mph. Quite dangerous...

So... noble. Wonderful manierism in the video clip.

child of the moon was rerecorded for the JJF 45. So the version that would have been on Satanic would have been different

Actually I think I prefer it to Happy and some of the others - the lyrics are terrific, and the way the music unfolds with a riff and rhythm that are slightly (deliberately) off kilter at first (a Charlie/Keith specialty) but resolve into a real evocative beauty. what great lines, "child of the moon / rub your rainy eyes..."

It's rather similar to The Beatles 'Rain', but I much prefer Child of the Moon!

check out the video @ 1:25. Keith was a bit more adept at coming out of trees in 1968!

Great drumming! Great riff! Great lyrics!

Another underated classic Stones cut. Played it for a friend who had never heard this song and he was blown away that he has never heard this song on the radio or even knew the Stones had recorded it. When is the last time you heard this one on any of the "Classic Rock" stations? Classic bores! What a joke radio is.

Also note the wonderful timing of that Jones sax. What feel and insight he possesed.

Reminds me of a '69 tour bootleg I bought in Amsterdam - with Keith Taylor and Mick Richards on guitars!

Yes, Jones only plays a couple notes on the sax during the chorus, yet in typical Brianesque fashion, the entire song is transformed and vastly improved as a result.

Yeah, there's something in that short simple soprano sax phrase that says so much, just like his soprano on Dandelion!

Alexis Korner talked of Brian wanting to focus on soprano sax more in 1969.

Give me a wide awake creasant shaped smile!!! Great song was almost like a bridge between satanic...and the new stones rock between 68-72. Too bad it was only on two offical US releases.
